Windows 10: Problem making partitions.

Ah, OK. You don't need to do that either. It is perfectly OK to install linux on one partition (it makes no sense to have a swap on the same disk I think) but that is a question for another forum probably *Wink

Have a look at the Arch wiki - it is excellent even if you are installing something else. Partitioning - ArchWiki

Anyway if you want to have lots of logical partitions they must all be next to each other - doesn't matter where really.

I saw from the link you provided that that GPT can support unlimited number of Primary partitions. Why don't we all convert our disks to GPT??

It depends on your bios and your OS.

Old computers will only boot from bios to a mbr partitioned disk. Newer ones will boot from EFI and can (and do) use GPT. As far as I remember it is not easy to make Windows 7 or earlier boot from EFI even if your hardware supports it.

It seems (after a quick look) that your laptop does support UEFI but it would be a whole new story to convert your disk and windows to GPT.

Unless you really want to do this I'd not bother as there isn't really much of a benefit. I did it on my MacBook last year as allegedly EFI boots faster but it made no difference that I could tell.

Most likely the easiest way would be to convert the disk to GPT and then reinstall everything (including Windows) which would be quite an undertaking.

 

That would be a hectic task. Won't do it then. *Smile
