    Problem when using "Save as" on a download document


    I updated Windows 10 yesterday and since the update I have been having an issue when using save as on documents that I am downloading.


    I have seen the issue with my Quick Books software, Chrome and other applications.


    I select download from within the application that I am using and then the save box appears. I look to enter the name that I want to save the file as but the keyboard input produces a range of random characters. To overcome the problem I have to save the file and then use the "rename" function to change the file name to what I want.


    I have tried re-starting the machine and logging in and out of the applications where I have seen the issue but with no luck.


    This is really frustrating.


    I appreciate any assistance to solve this issue

  2. Downloads folder is the Documents folder

    Hi Chris,

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

    Step 1:

    Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

    • Go to Download folder.
    • Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
    • In Properties go to Location tab.
    • In location Tab Click on Restore Default.


    Step 2:

    Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

    • Go to Documents folder.
    • Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
    • In Properties go to Location tab.
    • In location Tab Click on Restore Default.
    After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.

    Unable to Save to Documents


    I can't move, copy or save anything to my Documents folder. I checked the properties of the folder, under serurity it listed only Home Users and WMP Network Svc. My account name is listed in the srcurity tabs of Pictures, Music, etc., and I am able to save, copy and move to those folders. My account is listed in C:/Windows/Users/myname/Documents under the security tab. How do I add my name to the Documents folder in File Explorer? I think that should fix my problem.

    In a not so critical glitch, my computer will not go to sleep using the power settings in the control panel.
