  1. Problem with an Installation on new ssd

The Device: Lenovo Thinkpad carbon x1 5th gen.

The SSD: I upgraded a (compatible) from the 512 PCle ssd that came with it, to an M2 NVMe 1TB

I used a re installation USB for Windows 10 I got on Amazon (Please don't judge me, I've had bad luck downloading installation media in the past so thought I'd give this a shot, )

After 3 hours of tinkering with the bios settings I finally got it to boot from the USB drive and the installation went as it has when I've installed Windows 10 on new SSD's on former devices.

Everything looked okay EXCEPT - there was no WiFi option in Network settings. No drivers to update and nothing in the network files. Message says : "No wireless device found."

I uninstalled and reseated the and to make sure the antenna wasn't pinched or damaged, it wasn't anywhere near the SSD.

    Re-started - Same thing.

I downloaded Windows Installation Media but now the laptop won't boot to the USB, the formerly installed version of Windows 10 seems to keep taking precedence.

My settings: Secure Boot - Disabled, Legacy Boot Enabled, UEFI disabled, boot order is with USB-CD at the top and USB FAA next .

When I go through Recovery within Windows 10 that's installed, there are no Advanced set up options. I tried "Start Up with a Device" and it didn't work either.

I can't install any drivers since I have no internet connection. I'm launching a HUGE complain to Amazon about this product, although I know that this particular laptop (make that any brand of laptop, something like this seems to happen with all of them, always some idiosyncratic little glitch with "that particular model"

The new SSD IS recognized. I spoke to Lenovo, they're going to send me a copy of their installation media, but I'm not optimistic. I can't enable or access Network adapter settings to enable or change them because the file is empty.

I'm sorry for the length of this, and I appreciate and will follow just about any suggestion I haven't already tried. This job was estimated to last 10 minutes and "everybody" was capable - that was 13 hours ago and .............here I sit.

    :)

Win10 clean install on Samsung SSD 850 EVO

BLUF: SSD is not listed ubder "Where do you want to install Windows?"

    Steps Complete:

    1. I've create a Win10 bootable install usb.

    2. I connect the new Samsung SSD 850 EVO via SATA.

    3. I reboot PC and verify SSD is seen by the motherboard/BIOS

    4. Begin Win10 install via usb.

    5. Get to "Where do you want to install Windows?" and the SSD is not listed

    Problems:

    1. Samsung does not offer a driver for the 850 on their website

    2. Cannot locate driver elsewhere

    Unsuccessful Mitigations Steps Attempt:

    A. Format & partition SSD via Windows Disk Management, then retried steps 1-5 above....same result

    B. Clone existing HHD onto SSD via "Image for Windows" by TeraByte, then verified SSD contents via Windows Explorer....similar result

Can you please offer some advice on locating a driver for a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB drive? Or an alternative method?

    Thank you
