Windows 10: problem with hyperlinks failing from office 2016 products after KB4497934 Windows 10...

I just completed an update - KB4497934


Before the problem with the hyperlinks from office products (as an example) seemed to be resolved (after KB4505056)


The problem is that if no browser is open.. (I use IE).. the hyperlink fails to open and gives only a small error message..


The other symptom is that if a browser is open on a system reboot... they all reopen on startup... (Edge and IE.. as many were open at reboot time)…


Hope this problem is resolved again!

Under info for the new office listing on My Visual Studio it states.

I'm thinking option one is going to be my only option. I'm fine with that as long as I can get Outlook to work with my ISP's pop3 e-mail. Last time I tried that with the new 2016 install I could not get it to work, no way no how. All the same settings that work with the ISO install?

EDIT: I should mention, for me as far as I know, neither of these options are a subscription. They use two different keys but they are perpetual one time activation licenses. I only ran the new download briefly though, as I could not get outlook to work. I bailed and went back to what works.

How to direct email hyperlink to Outlook/Office 10

This problem was solved by uninstalling a stub version of Office 365, which came with the Windows 10 installation, and then running an install/repair of Office 2010. Once I did that, although the Icon says email is Outlook 2016 in Control Panel --> , its describing text says Office 2010. So, that fixes my hyperlink problem.

I will enter a new post to ask how to add to the default programs list, even if that is not possible.
