Windows 10: Problem with my product key

I am having a problem using my old laptops Windows Professional edition product key on this new laptop with windows 10 home edition.


I have tried to go into the cmd prompt command shell and add the key there but it's still not allowing me to use it. I know that I had it on my old laptop. Which still works. The old laptop key is a windows 7 pro key and the new laptop is a windows 10 home.


The only things i have tried are to open the cmd windows PowerShell admin and typed slmgr.vbs /ipk - Not sure what this did. It just caused an error that says is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.


I have also tried to input product key in system settings and a message that says product key entered didn't work with code 0xc004f05. Not sure what to do with it now.


Can anyone help me get this to work? I totally appreciate the help.

Activate windows 10 after re-installing (I have lost my product key)

I own a Lenovo T430 laptop. In 2017, I installed Windows 10 using my original Windows 7 product key. Unfortunately, I cannot find that product key anymore. I need to re-install windows 10. Will it be automatically activated after the installation, if I skip the step of asking the product key during the installation?

In my opinion, I believe that my laptop will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers and this will not be a problem. Is that true?

If not, please suggest me a solution or a workaround.

Like davidhk said. But if you really want to see your windows key, I would suggest Belarc advisor. It will give you some useful information about your system, product keys of your software is among them (not only Microsoft, you will have listed most of your keys).
