I am an amateur with this aspect of computing but found a workaround for this annoying problem with my computer that others may find useful (albeit a pain in the neck).

The basic method is to 1. Disable the problem connection, 2. restart the computer; 3. Enable that connection.

I got to 1. by clicking "Change adapter settings" in the Network Sharing Centre.

On my computer when I right click the connection and Disable the connection, the computer freezes! I had to shut it down by holding the power switch in for 8 seconds. But when I finally restart the computer, the problem connection is Disabled and as soon as I Enable that connection, my internet connection again worked. Hope it helps someone!

I've just had this fault. We had a break in the electricity supply just as I was installing a major piece of software. When I ran up the computer it refused to go on the Internet and after a bit of diagnosis came up with this error. I tried uninstalling the network adaptor, hoping that a restart would reinstall it - and it did however it still would not connect. Now the computer that is not working is my desktop. I tried to get on to the internet on my laptop and it worked fine, so the fault lay in my desktop computer. I don't have wifi on my desktop I use one of those OnNetwork adaptor things that plug into your mains. I checked that the other OnNetwork worked on my telly and then swapped them. Fault cured so in my case it was the OnNetwork adaptor which was faulty

Hey I was having this problem for a while, and I finally figured out something that worked for me. I tried opening up IE instead of Chrome just to make sure it wasn't my browser. IE informed me my computer was trying to connect through a proxy that I had not set up. I went into the Network and Internet settings, and under Proxy I disabled "Use a proxy server". I had tried everything else up up to this point with no success. Maybe it will help somebody else.

All worked well from a day after I posted the above. But the problem is back today. I use the above technique and the internet is connected for a time but gets disconnected seemingly when I access a few sites. last time, as soon as I clicked Google the connection failed.

OMG Thank You KBC i have had this issue for days and tried sooooo many of the suggestions (netsesh, Winsock, IPv and 6) and I was only able to get some basic WiFi access no ethernet at all. This took me 2 minutes and everything is working perfectly.

I joined this forum just for the Thank You and so hopefully this thread reaches the top and helps other out with the same annoying issue

  8. Problem with One or More Network Protocols Missing

I had the same problems today. I called Iyogi and am a paid subscriber for last 5 yrs and will expire in 2019
Tech support told that My Security system is obsolete and expired and they need to reinstall the new security system which will cost me $258.00 for next 3 yrs. Even I will buy the new tower ....they still need to install in the new one .Per tech my subscription is for service only .

Go to wi fi or internet properties. Highlite the Internet Protocol Version (TCP/IPv4)

    Click Properties

    Click Obtain IPAdress automatically

    Done

    Connected to wifi
