I'll have to try typing in google.com I've just been using Microsoft Edge and typing in various websites.

Yesterday, I was able to access a couple of sites, but the connection was slow. Today, I have not been able to access any sites.

It says that the lease expires tomorrow, January 17, 2018. How is this to be understood?

Correct, each day the ISP gives you an address by DHCP which is set to auto connect when the machine boots. *Smile

When I type in google.com to the Microsoft Edge browser, I get the google search page.

It prompts me to switch to Chrome. It asks me to sign in to my google account or to create an account.

However, although I can get to the first stage of my Yahoo Email account, it will not let me enter my password so that I can access my email.

It would also not let me access any other website that I tried to access, such as The Drudge Report.

No, I only have Windows Defender. I haven't run a scan with Windows Defender.

I have an account with Malwarebytes Anti-malware. I had it on the BSoD computer that went bad. I haven't asked the Malwarebytes people to transfer my account to the refurbished Dell 745 yet. I thought it would be best to have it up and running before I did that. My account is good for more than one year.

You can run the 14 day trial I linked to and do a scan now... *Nerd Is also a test of browser to see if you are being redirected... *Sad Where did you purchase the 'refurbished' Dell?

In order to sign up for a 14-day trial, I would have to be able to access the Internet with the refurbished computer; I still can't do that. I could try to run a scan with Windows Defender.

I bought the refurbished Dell OptiPlex 745 from a company in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. They had it on ebay. They said they had ten left. The company's name is Colgan Tech.

I'm in the Eastern Time Zone, St. Petersburg, Florida, and it's getting a bit late. I'll begin tomorrow with a scan with Windows Defender. I hope we can resolve this problem. I'm trying to write a book, and I'd like to get back to doing the necessary research.

Thank you for your help up to this point; I hope you are able to continue tomorrow.

I didn't see it mentioned and it's a bit harder to get to in Win10 but go to Settings then Network and Internet then scroll down to Network and Sharing Center then bottom left to Internet Options. Click the Connections tab, LAN settings at the bottom, the next page should have only Automatically detect...... checked unless your ISP or a program needs Proxy settings. It usually is automatically checked since Win7 but with connection problems that's the first place I check. Infections can make changes there. Not being able to open pages or the slowness mentioned is indicative of a problem there.

I went to the window you indicated, and I found that "Automatically Detect" was checked.

I ran a full scan with Windows Defender, and it reported that No Threats were detected. (It took 45 minutes.)

I tried to access the Internet but got the same result: "We can't reach that page."

See if you can run the steps in post #25.

Open the HP website > support and drivers > enter the computer's product or serial number > view drivers > post a URL or hyperlink into the thread.
