Windows 10: Problems after updating to 20H2

Hi all,

I've been having many issues with my Windows account after updating to 20H2. Right after installing the update I noticed that Chrome was considerably slower (took a couple of seconds just to load the home screen), so I reversed the update to the last one. However, I'm pretty sure something went wrong in this process, as I'm having the following issues:

- cannot perform updates (download error 0x8000ffff), not even downloading the updates from the windows page and installing manually

- some functions are now blocked, for example, I cannot open "Services" (an administrator has blocked you from running this app)

- an extra account was created with the name Administrator, in which I can open the apps like Services, but also cannot install updates

- cannot run the troubleshooter on the windows updates as well (a problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting)

- Chrome is still pretty slow, so are streaming services like Netflix (video has lag)

After losing an entire day trying to figure this out I am almost at the point of giving up, backing up my files and reinstalling Windows... But this would take me at least another day. My machine is a Ryzen 9, Geforce gpu and MSI motherboard.

Update 20h2

Hi Wicki,

I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 3 year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

20H2 should not be installed right-away on your device - MS said the rollout is only to a fraction of users and would be labeled as an optional update initially. Are you enrolled in WIP?

You may uninstall 20H2 using the steps below:

Update History is not showing v.20H2

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

This is normal behavior in Windows 10, typically when you install a Feature Update like 20h2, the update history is wiped, this is to prevent the user from trying to uninstall an update that was prior to the Feature Update, which would de-stabilize Windows
10, the list should start building again, when some updates are applied to version 20h2 . . .

 

Windows Update Manager not updating

Available updates:
· 2021-03 Cumulative Update for Win 10 ver. 20H2 (K8500080) Status: Down loading – 0 %
· 2021-01 Update for Windows 10 ver. 20H2 (KB4023057) Statue: Pending install

If you were in this situation, what would you do to get the Update Manager to make these updates?

• There is 43.8 GB available disk space.
• Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool completed successfully
• Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

What do you think is the cause of the problem?
What steps should be taken to solve the problem?
