Windows 10: Problems installing Bluetooth drivers for Targus BLUETOOTH 4.0 DUAL-MODE MICRO USB ADAPTER

I am having problems installing Bluetooth drivers for Targus BLUETOOTH 4.0 DUAL-MODE MICRO USB ADAPTER. I am using the drivers listed on the setup manual, however whenever I try to install them it displays the error message "Could not start the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack". I have tried everything on the troubleshooting page, and the Windows 10 troubleshooter simply says there is no Bluetooth device connected, however the device appears in the device manager under "Other devices" with a small yellow warning icon. Promate Bluetooth™ 4.0 USB Adapter !

Hello Everyone

I have just bought the above mentioned bluetooth adapter but unfortunately cant manage to connect my bluetooth headset with it (does not find the device in pairing mode, keeps searching)! I have downloaded and installed the latest driver for this device from the promate website. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the update and apologies for late response.

• Did you try installing the drivers available on the Targus website?

If you haven’t tried that yet, then I suggest you to install that drivers and check if that resolves the issue. You may download the Targus drivers from the link given below:

Note: Please scroll down the page and then you should be able to find the latest drivers available for Windows Operating System.



If the driver is not available for Windows 10, you can download the driver for previous version of operating system and install it in compatibility mode.

a. Right click the driver installation file and select
Properties then tap or click the Compatibility tab.

b. Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for:
box.

c. Tap or click the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click
OK.

d. Try installing the driver and check.

You may refer to: Make older programs compatible with this version of
Windows (information holds good for Windows 10 as well)

Bluetooth USB adapter recommendation

I think your very logical initial steps have already proven that the problem is a USB port problem and not a Bluetooth adapter problem.

I have never had to investigate a USB port problem but I think I have seen other USB threads in which guidance was given.

I'd be limited to
- checking for any warnings in Device manager or any devices being shown in an 'Other devices' section [which is a euphemism for no operative driver installed], and
- reinstalling the existing Device mgr, Universal Serial Bus controllers section drivers & the Bluetooth section, {Bluetooth device name} driver.
