Windows 10: Problems with installing Windows 10 update KB4088776.

Windows automatically installed update KB4088776. Notification was "We couldn't finish installing update" Restart is necessary to finish install. The only power option is update and restart or update and shutdown. I tried both, but it won't complete install after restart or shutdown and again get notification " We couldn't finish installing update"

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

When you do the winver command, you get an OS build number in the format xxxxx.xxx. What is the OS build number now for your system?

In my reply above, I listed a link to the MS Fix Windows Update errors troubleshooting guide. What steps in that guide have you completed so far? The first one is to run the update troubleshooter? Did you run that? Did you try re-running updates after that?
If not, I suggest you follow the steps in that troubleshooting guide, and after completing each step, rerun windows update after each step. If after each step, you still have the problem, follow the guide through the step marked "Fix windows File corruption".


There are known problems with installing KB4088776. You are not alone. If those steps do not resolve the problem and your system is otherwise operating ok, I would wait until MS issues a fix in a later update.
