Windows 10: Profile login hangs or spins when presented with incorrect login

While I understand providing the correct password would log me right in, every so often a finger slips during my password input and I get to watch the spinning "welcome" for a good 5 minutes before I get another attempt.

There's also inconsistency in wait times after an incorrect password. Sometimes I'll instantly get the "incorrect credentials" notification. This ruled out some sort of local lockout threshold policy. (unless there's granular options to make it random?)

I'm genuinely curious as to the reason for this.

I would attribute it to significant uptime and near maxed resources. But my laptop doesn't meet any of those criteria.

While a remedy would be nice, the problem is so infrequent that I'm just more curious than anything.

Anyone have some insight?

Windows 10 hangs at login screen after latest update

Windows 10 completed latest updates but now hangs at login screen. I type in the local password and the spinner starts to spin and then it just hangs. Suggestions?

After entering password the circles spin then returns back to login screen.

Requires reboot to login with msconfig Selective startup System Configuration.

Suggestion: Error Login tab in msconfig System Configuration that indicates error(s) of last 3 logins.

 

Windows 10 Login Crash Loop

• Which screen are you referring to?
• Are you able to login to Desktop?
• Are you able to see the login screen?

The power icon referred in the steps is present at the login screen. If you are able to see the login screen where you enter the password to go to Desktop, then you need to follow those steps. These steps to be followed if you are able to reach to
login screen but unable to go to Desktop.
