Windows 10: Prompt for login twice, but fingerprint works for first, not second.

So for some reason, recently my laptop started prompting for my password twice. I use fingerprint reader, and the first time it works. But when it prompts for login a second time, my account acts like fingerprint isn't assigned, I must enter password or PIN.


However, if I select the second user account on this laptop Lenovo X280, it then accepts the fingerprint at the second prompt, even though that account does NOT have fingerprints setup at all!


I have deleted all fingerprints in Windows and in BIOS. I have even deleted the second user account and made a new one. The same thing still happens. It's very strange.


I have tried this fix too, but it didn't work.






At this point I've run out of ideas, so decided to post here.

I suggest you to login to the guest account and update the drivers for fingerprint by following the steps below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows key + R and type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter.
• Right click on the driver for Fingerprint and select the option to update the driver and follow the prompts to update.

[Thinkpad X230t]Have to wipe the fingerprint twice to login windows 10

I have a Thinkpad X230t previously with Windows 7 installed. Later, I upgraded it to Windows 10. Then I come across the problem with the fingerprinter.

Every time I have to wipe my fingerprint twice to login windows 10. It seems to me that the first wiping wakes up the machine and the second boots the operating system.

Is there anyway to fix the problem so that just a single wiping starts the machine and the OS?

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it fixes the issue.

Method 1: Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

Follow these steps to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter:

• Press Windows key + W and type troubleshooting.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click Hardware and Devices.
• Follow the on-screen instruction to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall the driver

I suggest you to try uninstall the fingerprint
drivers check if it works for you.

Follow the steps to uninstall the Fingerprint
drivers:

• Press Windows Key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Right-click on the Fingerprint device listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.
• Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Try to access the device manufacturer's website and download and install the latest chipset and Fingerprint
drivers.

Method 3

If issue still persists, I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the Fingerprint
drivers in Compatibility mode and check if it works:

Follow the steps to uninstall the Fingerprint
driver:

• Press Windows Key + X key.
• Click on Device Manager.
• Right-click on the Fingerprint device listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.
• Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Now download the drivers the manufacturer website and install it in Windows 8.1 compatibility mode. Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in compatibility mode:

• Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.
• Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 8.1 operating system from the drop down.
• Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.
