    PTP, MTP and MPEG decoder support without Media Feature Pack


    Good afternoon!

    I am going to install the N-edition of Windows 10 Pro and would like to have support for PTP, MTP and MPEG decorder. After a bit of research I was directed to download the "Media Feature Pack" under the tab "Add a feature". However, the problem is that it comes bundled with Skype, Groove, Cortana, etc, which I do not want to be installed. I only want the "Windows 8.1 Portable Devices WPD infrastructure" of the installation and this is detrimental for USB connection between devices, MicroSD, etc.

    How can I achieve this? This is absolutely necessary. I have researched for the past week and found a possible, viable solution to the MTP-issue: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19153

    ... but the problem with PTP and MPEG decoder still remains.

    Will this work, or should I just bite the bullet?

    MTP driver

    You need to install Windows Media Player to use MTP or PTP.

    You can download the appropriate version from

    I would like to know if there is a way to install Only the "Windows 8.1 Portable Devices (WPD) infrastructure" feature of the media pack. It completely ridiculous that MS would remove MTP & PTP features because users decide to skip out on windows
    media player when mobile platforms are almost standard.

    When I follow these steps Media Features are not listed, despite having downloaded and installed the Windows Media Feature Pack! Please help! Can't install GTA: V! Aaaargh!
