Windows 10: Publisher: Unknown - This app has been blocked for your protection.

I'm attempting to install software that is from a trusted source, where the publisher is identified as unknown. I get... "This app has been blocked for your protection." How do I turn off this protection so that I can install my software?

Publisher not Trusted, App blocked for 'protection'


Hi all.

I upgraded from 7 to 10 over the weekend. Few minor issues with graphics drivers, but everything was working smoothly.

When I went to open my VPN (Torguard), I received a UAC error message, stating that the app had been blocked for my protection, citing an untrustworthy publisher.

It was working fine with Windows 7, and is a reasonably well-used app.

I googled around, and activated the administrator account and re-installed on that account. Unfortunately, the same error occurred. Most other searches have suggested the same.
I have disabled Windows SmartScreen, and there isn't a 'Run Anyway' option.

One of the possible reasons why you’re being blocked from opening an app is because of SmartScreen, it acts as sort of guard dog while you use Windows 10. It will block you from opening some apps if they come from an unknown place or are created by
an unknown publisher. You can follow these steps on how to disable Windows SmartScreen.

• Click the Start button.
• Type SmartScreen in the Windows search bar.
• Click Change SmartScreen settings.
• Click the drop-down arrow in the Security row.
• Click Change settings beneath the Windows SmartScreen row.
• Click don’t do anything (turn off Windows SmartScreen) then OK.
• Try to run the app that was previously blocked.

Publisher MediaTek Blocked?


Using the tutorial Unblock File in Windows 10 didn't work.

From this suggestion I found a workaround of running the driver setup from CMD, which worked, but I'm still left with a blocked file. See certificate details below ...





Any ideas how to fix this?
