I don't know what spacing issue you're seeing in all of MS' products, but I haven't encountered it yet. Like I said, your confusion's probably got to do with word wrapping. When the available horizontal space is limited then long text automatically "wraps
down" to be visible on the next line. This is different from pressing Enter and deliberately starting a new line. Now when the text wraps, you may find that it has wrapped at an odd location. Seeing this, you're probably tempted to add or remove spaces to
make it look better. While that might improve the look of things in your eyes, unfortunately those extra or missing spaces mess up Explorer's file name sorting rules and hence the problem you complained about.

Making icons larger might help somewhat, but at the cost of extra space being used up. Not only that, even the biggest icon size's width can easily be exceeded by the length of a long file name, which will lead to the same problem once more. Details view
in Explorer is the best solution since there's no text wrapping used in that mode.
