Windows 10: Q Drive is not accessible

I put a memory card in my HP laptop to look for pics on it. For some reason the Q drive is not allowing access. It's probably been 4 - 6 months since I've used it. Can anyone tell me how to get it back please?

Cannot access shared network drive


Personally, I wouldnt use Everyone. If anyone hacks into you, they have full access to everything and can demolish everything on your raid. I would rather set up accounts and access separately for each person. That way, I know who did all that damage. In the end with a little extra work, I feel more secure by using Authenticated Users.

step 1 create non-microsoft account and without email and address without admin rights
step 2 share a drive or folder to specific user account (if Everyone is listed, remove it)
step 3 set security > add Authenticated Users (if more than 1 account) or add specific users
step 3a remove Everyone from list
step 3b uncheck full control and write for all items listed except SYSTEM and Admin account.
step 4 right click Start > Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders > Shares ... to verify settings and change anything else. You can also see the number of connections to each share here.

 

Unable to access Drives

Lost access to shared drives

In such puzzling cases it often helps to create a test bed, then build things up one step at a time.

1. Create a test account on your server, with a password of 123456.
2. Create a test folder on your server.
3. Grant full access to "everyone":
   
   
   
   
4. Check if the Test account has full access rights to the Test folder.
5. Share this folder.
6. Grant "everyone" full read/right access to the share:
   
   
   
   
7. Log on as Test, then run this command:
   
   net use Q: "\\%computername%\Test" /user:Test 123456
8. Check if you have full access to drive Q:.
9. Create the Test account /123456 on your other machine, then log on as Test on that machine.
10. Run this command:
    
    net use Q: "\\ServerName\Test"
