  1. Q: My computer's fan is running all the time

It started a couple of days ago before I updated to windows 10 from 8, I had switched from power setting of "HP recommended" to "High performance" and played a game. The computer I use is a HP Pavilion Beats edition. Now I try to play the games I usually have no trouble with, and it goes into hibernation from overheating. Even when I'm not in a game my fan is running high. So I checked out my task manager and I see disk and CPU usage are high, with the highest being "System and compressed memory." Please help! I've tried cleaning out my computer, deleting, unistalling, and such on with my malware program, virus program...

Please respond if you know anything that may solve this problem! Thank you.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant is stuck at 99%

My concern is my laptop is totally unresponsive and the fan is running all the time.

My computer is stuck on 99% and has been for at least 3 hours !

I am obviously concerned about a fire hazard !

  3. The CPU is cool but the fan is running at max speed which is very noisy. Is this the HP hardware problem ? Or is it the Window 10 issues ?

    <Original title: Desktop fan control>

I bought a refurbished HP desktop with Window 10 operating system. The CPU is cool but the fan is running at max speed which is very noisy. Is this the HP hardware problem ? Or is it the Window 10 issues ? How to fix this problem ? Thank you.

Q: My computer's fan is running all the time

Hi, there are many threads on "System and compressed memory" here as you will see if you search for that by pasting that string into the search box above. You may even find a hint from one of the solved threads that helps you.

There is no one solution to this- and some find none. Others work at diagnosing it and are lucky.

Here is my collection from some of these threads- hope it helps or gives an idea as to what you might try.
Diagnosis and solution requires a mix of technical knowledge and intuition, not to mention luck.

(You might also find this of interest - a different case where CPU use was attributed to sthg entirely different (but maybe nothing to do with system and compressed memory):

Heat is an enemy of electronics, especially laptops! I recommend a usb connected, external, cooling assembly [one giant fan or twin fans]. It doesn't matter the "WHYs" of "WHATs" of fans running full speed, add the external cooling assembly and game away! *Smile

  6. Thanks!
I'm now just planning on probably getting a newer computer, maybe a desktop instead of a laptop. Considering I've had this for 2 years now and that I probably need to upgrade considering the stuff I do on my computer like Games and such are becoming harder and harder to run.

You should expect idle CPU use to be under 3% at least, typically 2% or less. If not, sthg is wrong.

Q: My computer's fan is running all the time

I'd like to comment on a couple of things. First is that most Notebooks/Laptops have a finned device in them that the cooling fan exhausts through and can fill up with dust and filaments that one hardly ever sees and that reduces airflow causing heat issues. Hard to clean as many times have to take the Notebook apart just to get at it.

As to your System Specs your Memory/RAM/Random Access Memory is 8GB and your Hard Drive is 1TB [TeraByte]. When shopping for a new Notebook you may find up to 128GB or 256GB SSD/Solid State Drives and they are faster than an HDD/Hard Disk Drive but not as high in storage capacity. I suggest also budgeting for a portable USB HDD of 500GB or 1TB, mine came in on sale at $129.95 last year. Some Notebooks, especially the smaller or lighter, do not include an ODD/Optical Disc Drive but a USB version is well under $100.

    Ok, let's separate this clearly.
    1. If your laptop runs quietly in Safe Mode, fans not running, negligible CPU use, great. Please check.

If not you've got a problem - perhaps your laptop isn't fully compatible with Win 10 and your hardware and drivers don't align and thermal management isn't working properly. That can be a typical issue of upgrading to an OS not specified for a laptop.
That said, you say it's only 2 years old.

    2. What is your laptop? Please complete your system specs (See the Tutorial about this if unsure).

    3. System and Compressed memory is a feature introduced in Win 10. It should not normally be taking a significant %g of system resources. If it is, you need to try to identify the cause. (See #2).

Or, if thinking of replacing your PC, suggest you revert to the previous OS and sell it.

Also I want to list the fact that I believe I have my CPU overclocked, since it runs at 2.7 GHz instead of the spec reccomended 1.7 GHz. And it runs fine in safe mode, makes no loud fan noise. It's just right after I start it up or open it up. But now that I've been looking at things, I kind of want to switch back to my old OS which is 8.1, not 8 apparently, just to see if this fixes the problem.

  11. i decided to go ahead and try out the method which you turn off some stuff in Chrome, that stops Windows from messing with your video driver, or something like that. System and compressed memory- solutions.doc And after I had done it, my compressed memory has gone down, which is great, but my fan is still running very loudly and I believe I still might have an heat issue.

are the Graphics and Sound Drivers for W10 and compatible with your PC? This is a MUST.

You could try the "Clean Boot" option (Run>msconfig>Diagnostic Startup) and see if the problem persists.

EDIT: You could also take a look in "Task Manager" (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and try to figure out what is comsuming Processor .

  15. I just took apart my laptop, and no dust, so thats a no for Dust, but I believe my drivers are compatible with windows 10 and I want to know more about this "Clean Boot" option.
I'm running out of options before I decide to reset my computer, or go back to 8.1.

EDIT: This may be a dumb question, but how do I take a screenshot of my task manager?
