Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced QualcommÂ® Quick Chargeâ¢ 5, the fastest commercial charging technology for Android devices, which delivers unprecedented mobile phone charging speed and efficiency improvements compared to previous versions while enabling new battery technology, accessories, and safety features. The worldâs first commercially viable fast charging platform to support more than 100W charging power in a smartphone, Quick Charge 5 is engineered to allow users to charge devices from 0 to 50 percent battery power in just five minutes â representing the fastest mobile phone charging capabilities available. Quick Charge 5 also uses QualcommÂ® Battery Saver and the new QualcommÂ® Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities technology to support unparalleled efficiency and help extend the battery life cycle on a usersâ device.

Performance and Efficiency

Building upon Qualcomm Technologiesâ long-standing leadership in fast charging solutions, Quick Charge 5 is the newest addition to the industryâs leading fast-charging ecosystem[1]. Affording exponential improvements from its predecessors, Quick Charge 5 is 70 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 4 and offers 10 times the power delivery of Quick Charge 1[2]. This solution supports 2S batteries and 20 Volts of power delivery.

Quick Charge 5 sets a new standard for charging performance by charging up to four times faster than the previous generation. While Quick Charge 5 charges devices at blazing fast speeds, it also keeps extreme safety measures in mind; Quick Charge 5 incorporates 12 separate voltage, current and temperature protections, including USB-input overvoltage protection at 25V and external power controls beyond 30V. It also runs 10 degrees Celsius cooler than Quick Charge 4. Quick Charge 5 enables Dual/Triple Charge technology, adaptive input voltage, INOV4, Qualcomm Battery Saver and the new Qualcomm Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities technology, which work together to maximize power transfer efficiency, increase safety and help extend the battery life cycle on a usersâ device.

For optimal Quick Charge 5 performance, Qualcomm Technologies is introducing the newest and next generation premium tier power management ICs (PMIC), QualcommÂ® SMB1396 and QualcommÂ® SMB1398. Supporting 1SnP and 2SnP batteries, wired and wireless input paths, adaptive operation based on the power source (3 level buck and DIV/2), and scalability (primary and secondary to provide higher power), Qualcomm SMB1396 and Qualcomm SMB1398 are engineered to provide maximum efficiency above 98 percent. Finally, they can support higher than 20V input voltage operation to accommodate the highest power levels from both wireless and wired power sources. Qualcomm SMB1396/SMB1398 are now available.

Ecosystem and Versatility

Quick Charge technology is the industry leading fast-charging method, available on more than 1,200 mobile devices, accessories, and controllers â ranging from car adapters to docking stations â and unifying the handset and laptop charging ecosystem. Backwards compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4, 4+ and existing handsets powered by the QualcommÂ® Snapdragonâ¢ mobile platform, Quick Charge 5 is a single accessory that addresses a variety of charging implementations in mobile devices. This solutionâs support for more than 100W charging capabilities functions within the same footprint as the previous 45W solution, cutting down on usersâ need to purchase additional Quick Charge-certified accessories across devices. Quick Charge 5 is optimized to take advantage of both USB-PD and Type-C technologies, addressing future Android requirements. Compatibility with industry standards like USB Type-C protocols also help users benefit from Quick Charge 5âs inherent scalability and expansion into additional devices.

Introducing Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ fast and efficient charging

Today Qualcomm Technologies introduced Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ Technology, our latest addition to the Quick Charge family, the biggest fast-charging ecosystem in the world with 1000+ accessories and devices worldwide. With Quick Charge 3+’s faster charging and affordability, there’s now the opportunity to enrich lives around the world with the convenience of Quick Charge technology.

Quick Charge 3+ will be available first on Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 & Snapdragon 765G, followed by other new Snapdragon platforms across tiers in 2020. Quick Charge 3+ supports new PMICs such as SMB1395/SMB1396, meaning:

Support of ultra-fast charging with lower-cost, variable voltage charging accessories such as Quick Charge 3+

Qualcomm Announces Quick Charge for Wireless and Qi Interoperability

At Mobile World Congress, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), announced Qualcomm®Quick Charge™ technology for wireless power, bringing its years of fast charging innovation to the wireless charging industry and helping consumers to wirelessly charge their devices quickly, safely and efficiently.

Characterized by fast and consistent mobile charging, the over 1,000 commercial Quick Charge technology-compatible mobile devices, accessories, and components are equipped with unique safety and intelligence features that are designed to minimize the amount of wasted energy and heat build-up on-device, and maximize the battery’s lifespan, ultimately protecting and improving consumer’s devices.

While wireless charging has become a popular charging option, the speed and efficiency of such products remains inconsistent. Further, wireless charging products have been introduced that claim Quick Charge support, when they have not passed through the required Quick Charge compliance process. In response to these issues, Qualcomm Technologies has expanded its compliancy program to include wireless charging pads powered by Quick Charge technology. This expansion includes forward and backward compatibility and helps enable high- and efficient- power transfer, for transmitter manufacturers to achieve truly fast wireless charging. Wireless charging pads powered by Quick Charge will work with the same Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4 and 4+ adaptersthat millions of users already have at home, work, and elsewhere. UL, a global safety science company and the first to administer the existing Quick Charge compliancy program, will expand testing to include Quick Charge for wireless power. Qualcomm Technologies is also welcomingthe first component vendor to the Quick Charge for wireless power program, Weltrend Semiconductor.

As part of the expanded compliancy program, additional testing will take place to ensure Quick Charge and Qi interoperability, aiming to provide consumers with a seamless wireless charging experience. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), creators of the Qi global wireless charging standard, includes over 650 member companies and over 3,500 compliant products. Qi-Certified devices include a majority of the world’s top selling smartphones, many powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ mobile platforms, with thousands of public charging stations deployed in restaurants, hotels, and airports, along with accessories available through traditional and online retail outlets.
