    Question about Automatic Updates

I have a question about Windows 10 and Automatic upgrades, windows 10 is free for a year, I was reading an article that said you will have to upgrade your computer by 2016 if you want to keep windows up to date?

I thought Windows 10, once installed and activated, was free forever? Meaning once you have it it will not automatically update a couple years later and all of sudden tell you to pay a fee.

    Am I missing something here?

    :)

  2. Questions about Automatic Windows Update

Your pc installed a feature update because Windows 10 receives two major updates per year which are mandatory and automatic. Windows version 1703 is the spring creators update for Windows 10. 1709 is the fall creators update. There's no opting out if you're
using Home or Pro, if you continue to ignore it the update will be forced.

You can't opt out of updates so if it's failing, you can either perform a clean install, contact Answer Desk, or schedule an appointment at a local Microsoft store. Ignoring it isn't an option, if the update fails and you fall more than two versions behind
    the license expires.

  3. Questions about Automatic Windows Update

I'm not looking to update Windows 10. So, it seems no one can tell me why Windows installed a feature update on a version of Windows that I am not running. I would assume that is why when it ask for a restart to finish the install it doesn't work.
So I will just continue to ignore it.

    Question about Automatic Updates

    Hello DRFP, *Smile

People have until the end of July 2016 to claim their free upgrade offer to Windows 10. If they don't claim it by then, they'll have to buy a retail copy afterwards.

Once you have claimed and upgraded to the free Windows 10, it is activated forever just like any other retail copy.

I think I'm reading out of date articles, it seems there are a number of stories on this and its doing a good job of confusing people, I'm like many who have upgraded and do not like automatic updates. I want the option to update later after the update is out for a a couple of weeks to see if others are having problems. This whole Automatic updating is very disturbing to me
