Windows 10: Question about moving existing windows 10 license to a new pc

Greeting all, i purchsed a retail copy of windows 8.1 and installed it on my current computer 6 years ago and upgraded to windows 10 while it was free couple years back. my question now is, if im building a new gaming pc, can i move my current windows 10 licensing to the new one? Provided i lost the product key of retail 8.1 last year after i moved.

My friend told me I can recover my product key in windows command then use it again on new pc, but he doesn’t know how exactly to do it.

So if I can recover my lost product key somehow, then I need to make a booting USB for windows 8.1, then install the 8.1 onto my new pc, enter the product key, then when I get into windows 8.1 , I’ll need to upgrade to windows 10 on new pc, is this how I do it? Or please shred some light since I’m not familiar how computer licensing works.

Windows 10 License question - New PC and old computer still exists.

Hi Microsoft Community!

I'm in the process of assembling a new PC and am going to give the old PC to my younger brother. I want to transfer my existing license to the new computer and if possible "de-license" the old one. These are the particulars:

• My Windows 10 license was purchased on the Microsoft website and originally activated with a product key.
• I still have this product key.
• I have since formatted the PC and after re-installing Windows 10 the activation is now with a digital license.
• I prefer using local accounts on my PC and thus haven't created a Microsoft account enabled user.

My question is how to best go about transferring the license? Can I just format the old PC and activate my license on the new PC with the product key? If I do that will I get a problem when my brother installs Windows on the old computer again, since it
now has a digital license?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

Windows 10 upgrade license

The interesting question is that: the upgrade takes place before 29 of July. If I upgrade the PC (change the MB), and I transfer the Win 8.1 license to this new PC (cause 8.1 is retail FPP), will I be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free? Or a upgrade license must be bought?

 

Installing Windows 10 on New PC?

I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?
