    Eliminated was the wrong word.

I meant that they "made a lot of noise" about them (just like Secure Boot).
More accurately, a lot of blogs suddenly ran articles about it and by that, I mean Chicken-Little-style noise ("The sky is falling!").

MS doesn't supply them any more.

The part you're ignoring, and the part that wasn't mentioned in your linked article, was the fact that the vulnerability was published in a blackhat whitepaper. It was real, not something mysteriously made up. Certainly, it's true that Microsoft could have fixed the vulnerability instead of killing gadgets, but it's no conspiracy that the flaw existed (and still exists today) in the gadget system.

When you say restored, do you mean a full restore off a boot disk or just restoring within the OS.[/QUOTE]

    Hi

When I say that I restored twice I mean that I restored using a System Image file that I had created.
I have made 8 image files so far about one every other day.

I have now restored 4 times.

To make the System Image files I use, EaseUS TODO backup.
It's very easy to use and takes about 15 minutes to make an image of my C:\Windows 10 partition.

It takes about the same amount of time to restore it.

Before I make the Image File I run Malwarebytes, CCleaner, and defrag the files on the disk using Defraggler.

So when I restore it I'm right back where I was.

I don't install any of the software in the C:\ drive, I created a folder on another drive "Windows 10 software and image backups" so that I keep the size of the backup down to about 17 Gigabytes.

Here's a link to the backup software...

Best free backup software - EaseUS Todo Backup Free

Easiest backup software to use and it's FREE.
It's never failed to work for me.

  4. Question? Have you installed Win 10 and use it everyday?

Obviously there must have been something wrong with the Gadget model or someone would have "called them on it". *Confused
BTW, MS also warned that 3rd party Gadgets were problematic in October 2013.

The InfoWorld article describes what the issue was (SOP - dodgy coding):
    InfoWorld
Time to kill (most) Windows Gadgets | InfoWorld

That info indicates that it should have been obvious from "Day 1" that the (security) model was broken.
An embarrassing oversight, since MS put a lot of work (or claimed that they had) into the Vista and W7 security.

They put a lot of effort into taming ActiveX in Internet Explorer, but ignored it elsewhere? *Confused

It should be okay. Anyone can use gadgets..... AT THEIR OWN RISK. *Smile

  8. Question? Have you installed Win 10 and use it everyday?

I use windows 10 in vmware player as much as possible. Almost using it every 3 days. I give my feedback as much as possible and on there windows suggestion box.

Going slightly off topic but with the gadgets that vulnerability affects gadgets that connect to the internet. Using the built in windows gadgets that do not access the internet do not really pose a threat.

I also like to point this out:

If the flaw is really that serious and dangerous, why did Microsoft not push it as a security update through windows update?

Right there that seems odd to me. Don't get me wrong, the flaw does exist. But I feel like it is not as dangerous as they claimed. Through my own testing I was unable to get gadgets to do anything insanely risky, but that might be because I have uac on the highest setting. Not sure. I did not look into it that much that I would have liked. Most av products have prepared themselves for gadgets problems anyway since the flaw was announced.

So far I have not seen an infection caused by gadgets, but it is certainly possible. But I think it is way more likely you would be attacked through your web browser and not the gadgets.

I have a feeling MS is or will be pushing live tiles instead of gadgets.

  10. I'm still using it in VMware and like it, I've started to use it more than my main OS 8.1, even though I liked that OS and found nothing wrong with it.
I've installed Windows Live Mail today, don't like the inbuilt Mail app, it doesn't have everything I'm used to and it takes longer to deal with your mail.

Question? Have you installed Win 10 and use it everyday?

i use it on my laptop as my main os. there are small problems but not enough to ditch the os as my main os. i dont use it for important stuff so i can accept the problems and changes microsoft makes.
i understand i am taking a risk as even microsoft warns you of this but as i said i dont use it for important stuff and the stuff i dont want to lose i just put them on the cloud

  14. Yes win-10 has been installed twice to review the new builds and leave feed back on that build,
    Then removed,
So no not an everyday venture *Wink
I'm only interested in the interface not to see if built in apps function or if other programs function from a different os version,
    Cheers.

  15. Now a month without going back to Win7. I feel like cheating has turned to an affair.

For the first time I believe that WIn7 has shown its age, an will be at last giving way to a worthy successor. If TP is as polished at pre-beta as this, imagine what it could be as finished product.

I'm even more excited after several sessions at MVP Global Summit with the TP Team, although I cannot discuss anything that was presented. Am in a session right now on Cortana which may be an even more revolutionary improvement.
