  1. [Question] Is storage sense safe?

    Hey guys

Today, I just found an option called "storage sense" in my settings that I never used before.
So I decided to use it to see what it does actually to my storage, and I clicked on "Clean now" option. However, it cleaned up about 3 GB of my space which was really surprising.

But now, I'm a bit worried about what it did to my stuff... Wanted to know which type of files this tool has removed from my storage? Are they only my downloads and temporary stuff like installation files cache?

Or can it remove some important files like my drivers or other apps data?? :/

    (Windows 10 - Version 1909)

    :)

    What is STORAGE SENSE?

    Hi Taffy087

Storage sense automatically removes temporary files etc. when disk space is getting low.

    1) yes, as space is getting low on the system disk, although at that stage it hadn't done anything it is turned off by default but was suggesting you turn it on.

    2) it is new with windows 10, but if you were not low on space you may not have known about it. It will eventually replace the disk clean-up.

    3) you can safely remove everything listed in storage sense.

windows.old contains details of the previous build and is only required if you opt to roll back within 10 days of installing a feature update - if you don't need to roll back or it has been more than 10 days, you can safely delete it.

Nice one Dude. Added to the list.

I am happy you made this, it has been on my ToDo list for ages but the real life has been messing with my plans preventing any time consuming hobbies like video making [Question] Is storage sense safe? :)

  4. [Question] Is storage sense safe?

What is Storage Sense? And how would it handle SSDs and/or Hard Drives?

There is a new Windows 10 feature that was added in the Creator's Update. It's called
Storage Sense. It is accessed by going to the Settings UWP app, under the System menu, and in the Storage list item.

I couldn't find any more information about Storage Sense, other than it helps with the data stored on your primary and secondary drives, I think?

So I have a few questions:

    • What is Storage Sense and what does it really do? Give an explanation as detailed as possible.
    • How would it work on SSDs?
    • How would it work on Hard Drives / Disc Platter Storage Medias?
    • Is it self-aware the user is on SSDs or on Hard Drives?

    Thanks.
