    Question on Clean Install method

Latest download Win10 download (Home version)
Today at end of media creation tool's attempted Win10 install USB creation, I got msg box that said, Problem running this tool on this device, error 0xC1800116-0xA001B.
So I ended up just downloading the ISO with the media creation tool instead of trying to create the install USB. Then with Rufus I created the install USB on another computer. I then inserted the created USB in the computer I wanted to do a clean install on.

But instead going via Recovery options or rebooting with USB inserted like in the past, (for some reason) I just opened the file manager up and ran the Setup.exe file on the install USB. It did by all detection I see install a clean windows.

But my question is: Does this way accomplish the same outcome as the reboot to start process that I've always done in the past?

I ask mainly because some prompts were a bit different and even though it did ask me if I wanted to save anything (which I chose NOTHING) it did not ask if I wanted to delete any partitions like in the past. And the partitions still appear as they were OEM. Appreciate any comments or input.

    :)

  2. Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

    Question on Clean Install method

    Windows Vista Clean Installation

To do a clean install on a fresh hard drive with Vista on an upgrade disc, you have to follow certain steps. Buying a full install CD would've been easier, but using the upgrade disc only adds more time, so it's not that big of a deal.

Follow the instructions here to do a clean install with an upgrade disc: http://www.vistarewired.com/2007/02/28/perform-a-clean-install-with-a-vista-upgrade-disc
