  1. Question on Screen Resolution?.

I am not a gamer per se I have played two games over 10+ years. Firstly I played the Football Manager simulation game until it became too easy and 4yrs ago being a lifelong Sci-Fi fan I picked up on Elite Dangerous. My graphics card is an NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti and I played through an older AOC 24" PC Monitor. Recently we bought a new Samsung 4K HDR tv for our family viewing and I took the 3yrs old Panasonic 4K 3D tv it replaced and added it to my PC. I have it set up in Windows 10 using the "Only show on Screen 1 or 2" option in the Display settings. I tried the other options but found that the mouse disappearing was disconcerting in the Extend option and am unsure of using the Duplicate option due to my question here.

The resolution settings for the TV go up to 3840 x 2160 while the resolution for the monitor is 1920 x 1080. The in game graphics settings for Elite Dangerous only go to 1920 x 1080. At first I just tried with the TV settings also at 1920 x 1080 but even though I had the TV picture settings set on the Gaming option and it is a huge improvement on the old monitor I found the orange text used in Elite Dangerous very bright and a tad blurry round the edges. I turned off the Bloom setting in the options and turned down the GUI lighting and it was a little better but not perfect.

Last night I set the TV resolution at 3840 x 2160 and it is a big improvement again and would like to keep that setting but am unsure whether this is okay or will it damage my PC or graphics card?. Excuse my ignorance on these matters but I am a retired pensioner and although not completely PC ignorant I never grew up with them like the present generation but I do like to keep on top of things.

    :)

  4. Question on Screen Resolution?.

    Monitor resolution

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are facing issues with screen resolution. I will try to help you in fixing the issue.

To help you suggest more steps to resolve the issue, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

What exactly happens when you try to change the screen resolution? Do you get any error message?

The recommended resolution on windows 10 is 1920 x 1080. Change the resolution to 1920 x 1080 and check.

The reason why your display was stretched sideways is because the resolution was in-corrected.

Here are the steps to change the screen resolution:

    • Right Click the Desktop and select
      Screen Resolution.
    • Click the Make text and other items larger or smaller link.
    • In the Change only the text size section click the
      drop down menu
to select the items you want to change.
    Hope the information was helpful
