Windows 10: Questions about deferring a feature update in Windows 10 Pro Windows Update Settings

Due to the current issues with the October 2018 Update rollout, I want to defer this feature update for two months (this is the first time since 2015 that I don't want one of these updates right away).


Yesterday I set the Feature Update setting to defer for 60 days. But 60 days from when? It doesn't say. More than 24 hours later, it still shows 60 days. If I set it yesterday, wouldn't it be 59 days today? And how do I even know it's actually set? Back in the Spring I was reading posts about the April 2018 Update ignoring this setting and installing anyway.


To be clear, I don't want to delay the "Patch Tuesday" security updates, I only want to delay the update to 1809.


Is there something I'm missing?

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

Go into Services and change Windows Update Service to either disabled or manual start. If you have Pro u can select deferred update under the Windows Update advanced options menu.

Then there's always the registry. lol

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.
