I've been using the free Macrium Reflect for a little while, and as near as I can tell, it works. The interface seems more complex than Todo Backup (perhaps not as good for a normal "user", and it doesn't make incrementals, so I'm looking around at others. I've also never had to restore anything from the Macrium backups, but I hope it'll work if I ever have to.

Recently, an acquaintance who didnt have ANY backup had a system disk failure and said it was unpleasant (I'm editing heavily). So Im looking at a couple different backup/restore tools (including Windows) to see what'll be easiest for regular "users" to use.

In the free Todo Backup, I selected System Backup and created a backup with: Weekly on Monday at 3 a.m., specified Full for Backup Method and told it to wake the computer if needed. For Image-Reserve Strategy I specified no more than 4 weeks and checked Dont delete the first image.

I then selected System Backup again and created ANOTHER backup with: Weekly, every day EXCEPT Monday at 3 a.m., specified Incremental in Backup Method, and told it to wake the computer if needed. For Image-Reserve Strategy I specified no more than 4 weeks and checked Dont delete the first image.

So, every Monday morning at 3 a.m. it creates a full backup and every other day at 3 a.m. it creates an incremental. Somewhere in there it deletes the full and incremental backups that are more than 4 weeks old. I havent found an explanation of appoint weekly first backup as that makes sense, but I found a case study that specified the backups the way I did them.

With this setup, am I going to be able to boot from the Emergency Disk flash drive I created, and restore the O/S to my current system drive to make the computer bootable again? Or, in the event of a drive failure, will I be able to put in a NEW hard drive and restore to THAT drive so its bootable and has all the settings and programs available that were on the old hard drive?

And with the incremental backups, restore the system to the day of the last successful backup?

Should I be doing something different than the above?

Does the System Backup ALSO back up those three strange little partitions that have names but no drive letters:

    • 554MB Recovery Partition (which is completely full of something)
    • 511MB NTFS Basic Data Partition (about half full)
    • 329MB FAT32 EFI System Partition (almost empty)
Does it NEED to back them up?

Is there some advantage to using Todo Backup for data partitions instead of Syncback?

    :)

    4. Click Browse to select destination of image file.

It is suggesting L:\My Backups as destination - you can change that by browsing to a different destination

This is the next window to open:

I see where to select the destination, but HOW do I tell it which partition to backup??

Then when I get it backed up, how would I restore the backup image to the Cdrive?

BTW I am using the free version of EaseUS todo.

    Any help is appreciated.
