Windows 10: Random BSOD particularly when idling - Kernel Power Event 41

Missed the clean install recommendation - I think I will have to buy the bullet and do that.

You can say, we fixed the BSOD (Black screen of Death in my case) with a "Clean Install." Thanks to Ztruker and AXEO for their help.

BUT, I lost five years worth of work because unbeknownst to me the Windows 10 "backups" were ALSO failing and I ended up with NOTHING.

CHUCK ANOTHER VICTORY FOR WINDOWS MACHINES!!!!! It definitely IS WINDOWS, the most imperfect OS created by men.

I must say Ten Forums is the BEST out there if you need to solve an OS problem. You may not like the answer BUT, you can solve it.
I now have an empty machine, except for OS, that works with all four screens and, so far, has not failed with a ID 41 freeze.

 

Guys, I sang "Solved" too soon. The Desktop is still experiencing freezes, not at idle now. The freezes seem to be totally random. It froze as I was working to populate a launched program with data, When I was downloading my printer drivers, and today as I left it alone for less than 10 minutes with only Chrome opened. On the latter the cursor on the main screen was frozen on CHrome, but I had a moving cursor on another screen, when I tried to open the task manager, it froze as well; afterwards it gave me a blue screen with a sad face telling me that windows had a problem and was collecting data. So I let it do that and right after re-start, I created a Ten Forums dump file. it ought to be attached.
I hope this tells you something.

 

The 2/20 dump again shows a problem with your Nvidia video card or driver.

I guess you're back to looking at that new video card you described (other manufacturers make a 5 port GTX950, with two Display Ports, 2 DVI Ports, and one HDMI Port).

 

I took my machine to a MicroCenter Knowledge bar and had them update my BIOS, check that all my firmware was up to date and run an overnight stress test on the machine with both graphic cards. They found out, independent of the OS they see both cards working but with the OS running, the machine freezes. Then they ran a stress with the OS running and one card only the second night and it ran fine.

Based on this I can definitely say Windows 10 is too dumb to run 2 Graphic Cards.

I bought a Zotac GEForce GTX 1060 Card that can support up to 5 monitors. The reason for that card, it has 3 Display ports and One Dual-link DVD port, aside from an HDMI port I cannot use.

Sad to say Windows Progress is still NOT progress for the users. Windows 10 for all the haranguing done, still just another typical Windows system. Throw something out there, anything, AND, let the users pay for the improvements. May be with any luck eventually they have something that works.

From my point of view, Windows 10 is way behind where Windows 7 was, even when I bought my first copy of it.

 

... and yet I see posts of people who do run two video cards successfully.

I want to THANK YOU guys for ALL the help - that cannot go without saying. Of all the sites out there, you easily have the BEST not only for the excellent support you provide the community of Windows otherwise-silent-Monks, but also for the outstanding resources you provide us with.

However, based on what I know, I can't say this issue was solved. This issue is patched at best and all I am saying is, this is Microsoft responsibility.

Ztrucker, you are 100% correct, there are Desktop out there with 2 Graphic cards that work - I am typing this from another I built in 2008 Intel Core duo E6750 CPU, BIOS Phoenix V6.00PG, 8GB Memory, and 2 GEForce 8400GS Graphic cards. It only blue screen every so often after certain updates of Windows 10, otherwise has been way more reliable than the Haswell machine.

Things as so bad for ASUS they have posted TWO FAQ answers in their website (they have given up on W10).
1. From Here (Access Denied) they send you to a "Microsite" where they have a listing of MOBOS that work with Windows 10, at the bottom of the list under a "no-easily-decipherable" header they have their older high end boards that "might" work with a BIOS update. Mine is listed there.
2. But here (Access Denied) they send you to a website where they have the boards that are working with Windows 10 according to chipset. Mine is NOT listed there.

SO yeah, you can say "Some" desktops do work with Windows 10. However, it will take industry AND the USERS to a while to catch-up. Meanwhile, Microsoft, for the sake of becoming more-like-Apple, has decided they will create planned obsolescence without telling their user who or how it is going to work.

In other words, "its Windows Man."
