    Random BSODs, Machine Check Exception

I am aware that MCEs are usually hardware related. I just want to make sure it isn't driver related before I get an exchange. I have my error dump file right here if anyone can check it out and tell me what's up. I really appreciate any help.

  3. BSOD Machine Check Exception

    Hey everyone,

This BSOD has become a daily thing now and it always happens while I am playing a particular game (Skyforge). The crash is fairly random from as quick as 5 minutes to as long as couple of hours while playing the game. I noticed that 'Windowed Mode' of the
game helps delay the BSOD but it is still disappointing as this is a relatively new system and to have BSODs at the start is just :/ I run a MSI GE62 2QD Apache Pro and have not altered anything since I purchased it ~6 months ago (aside from clearing bloatwares).
It was pre-installed with Windows 8.1 and I have tried the following in sequence:

    1. Updating drivers via Windows Update and via MSI Support page

    2. Updating to the latest Nvidia Graphic Driver

-The following changed the BSOD from Machine Check Exception to Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Than_Or_Equal bwcW8x64.sys which relates to a variety of .sys files including but not limited to (acpiex.sys, rdyboost.sys, bwcW8x64.sys, etc.)

    3. Uninstalled the latest Nvidia Graphic Driver and allowed Windows to automatically reinstall Nvidia Graphics Driver

    -Back to Machine Check Exception

    4. Cleaned all my fans, reseated RAM, fans are working

    5. Monitored my temps, usually in the range of 40-60 (can reach 70~80 sometimes but this only lasts couple of seconds?)

    6. Stressed test with Prime95 for 6 hours, no errors

    7. Reinstalled Skyforge

    8. Ran Driver Verifier

-Windows BSOD constantly, driver localised to hal.dll +37745 and ntoskrnl.exe (sadly I have lost the driver file because of 9)

    9. Upgrade AND clean install to Windows 10

-BSOD again Machine Check Exception within minutes of game (hal.dll +364b1)

    10. Please help Random BSODs, Machine Check Exception :(

I hope I have not missed out anything so that the team can help me with this issue. If there's anything else you need just let me know. You will have my eternal gratitude x

Ok... I ran a scan to check for corrupt files. After that was done it said it found a few but couldn't repair all of them. I would still like some clarification whether this is a hardware or software thing. Thanks

Just as an FYI, I'm getting the exact same bugcheck error. My system actually seems fairly stable until I boot up a virtual machine running Ubuntu Linux. Once the VM is up and running, I usually get a crash within just a few minutes. I also get the same crash running Ubuntu directly on the bare hardware.

Multiple users are reporting this problem, and there seems to be some suspicion that this is due to a bug in the i7-5700HQ CPU.

Ok, my computer's manufacture came out with a driver and BIOS update that has fixed the issue. Apparently the i7-5700hq had it's bugs and they just fixed it by updating the microcode to a newer version.

Glad to hear it fixed the problem. I ended up returning my laptop because I wasn't sure if it was a fixable defect. Honestly, I'm glad I did. It's taken MSI more than two months to fix the problem!

The BIOS update updated the CPU microcode and there was also an Intel released update to update the pci express driver and other CPU related drivers for broadwell. So anyone else experiencing this issue should look for any driver or BIOD updates available to them. Especially CPU microcode patches.

Before they fixed the issue MS OneNote would always cause a BSOD. I don't know why. I would open it, then a few seconds later nothing would respond and the death screen of blue would come.

I'm a obviously super happy they fixed it finally. *Biggrin

  12. I'm using MSI GE62 Apache Pro with Intel i7-5700hq and I'm facing the same issue. I get the MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION blue screen error whenever I try to save an MS Office document. Can you tell me how can I update the driver and BIOS?
    Thanks

Wow, it has been a while since I've seen this thread lol. For the bios update you will need a flash drive of pretty much any size.
Yeah I can help. First the bios update file is available here: Support For GE62 2QF Apache Pro | MSI Global | Laptops - The best gaming laptop provider

The file will be a zip file, inside that zip file will be a file named "E16J1IMS.113". Put that file on the root of the flash drive and reboot. Make sure you boot into the bios menu (I think you do that by pressing delete when you first see the MSI logo when booting) and navigate to the scree with an option the update the bios (bios flasher) and select the flash drive you have plugged in. And it should flash the bios. It may take up to 5 minutes to do.

Now the driver updates. To know for sure if you need them updated you should download a helpful program (or tool) from Microsoft called the show / hide updates tool. You can get that here: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...owhide.diagcab
Run the troubleshooter and it will show you a list of updates to hide, along with regular windows updates it shows available driver updates. This is very handy. If you see any driver updates that have to do with the processor, update them. Go to device manager, locate the driver in need of an update, right click and select update driver and click "Search Automatically for updated driver software", profit

If you have any other questions just ask. I recommend just starting with the updated bios and see if that alone fixes it.
