  1. Random Mouse Lagging and beeping !

    Hi again,

Yes, I can confirm the issue is back, and it is caused by the new March 8th cumulative update for Win10. I have uninstalled it and fixed the problem (at least until Windows wants to install the next cumulative fix). As with the previous cumulative fix, I have blocked the new one from reinstalling itself via this tool :

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

So far to fix the issue, I have blocked : KB3140768 and KB3140743
Since one supercedes the other, I think that you will likely only have to block the latest cumulative fix in order to fix your issue.

I have also discovered that the offending piece of code (at least in my case) in the cumulative update is a new xinput driver. When I get the double-beeps doing anything with the mouse, in Device Manager under Human Interface Devices, there is a yellow ! beside the Xinput Compatible HID Device, which corresponds to my XBOX One controller in use with the XBOX One adapter for PC. So I think I can probably accept the new cumulative update if I can force the old Xinput driver back into place. I think it is likely that new cumulative updates will keep trying to update the driver though.

I again experienced the laggy mouse issue (nope that isn't fixed as erroneous stated previously) and non-responsive mouse buttons last night after quitting Tom Clancy's The Division and turning off my Xbox One Elite controller. Puzzled, since I had previously uninstalled and blocked the latest KB3140768 cumulative update only the night before, I checked Windows Update to see that this update had been reinstalled!!! *Mad

So I had to again uninstall the update and run the Show/Hide Windows Update tool to prevent it from reinstalling on rebooting. I have also checked the Defer Updates button so hopefully this will prevent it from reinstalling though I fear that next Tuesday may have yet another cumulative update that I will need to repeat this tedious process for.

This highlights how potentially annoying Windows Update can be if you experience an incompatibility issue and then find yourself having to jump through hoops... backwards with both hands and feet tied it seems... to prevent Windows from installing a dodgy update again.

The galling thing is that the issue is caused not by me using the wireless Xbox One controller but when I physically hold down the Xbox button to turn it off. At that point the mouse buttons on my Corsair M65 RGB mouse stop working and I can no longer restart or shut down my PC without it getting stuck on the shutting down screen. It's really annoying.

I could just not use my Xbox One controller until the issue is solved (if it ever is... I don't have much faith in Microsoft these days, I'm afraid) but isn't one of the benefits of Windows 10 the whole Xbox integration thing, including support for its (IMO) superb controller?

  3. The new update installed for me and caused the same issue. Uninstalled that one too.

To uninstall it, go to your advanced windows update options and select the option to uninstall the update.
Afterwards, you will need to download and run Windows "show or hide updates" in which you will need to select the update you wish to hide so windows does not automatically install it again

I don't use a controller very often, so otherwise, the update is fine for me. I'll just continue to use mouse/keyboard in games.

  5. Does someone mind re-posting how to go about deleting and blocking updates? This is crippling my PC as every time I play a game with the Xbox One controller- I have to hard shut down the machine which isn't good.

  7. This is annoying. I uninstalled and used the tool to block KB3140768 and Win10 just went ahead and reinstalled it anyway. Ho hum. If anyone comes up with a permanent solution, please don't be shy. I can tell Win10 will just keep updating itself ad nauseum trying to get the latest cumulative fix on. Just uninstalled and blocked again. Let's hope this one holds up.

Yes, it did the same for me too. Very frustrating.

I have now checked the Defer Updates option and so far it has not been reinstalled.

Why Microsoft make us jump through hoops to block updates is anyone's guess but I've had more issues from compatibility or broken updates since upgrading to Windows 10 last July than I ever did in all the time I had Windows 8/8.1 installed. Makes it feel like I am beta testing to be honest.

  9. This post got me thinking that it may indeed be the XBox One Controller; so I booted up the XBox One Accessories app and lo and behold there was a controller firmware update waiting. I installed that, reset my PC and bOoM, no more lag or mouse beeping. So...

    ***TO FIX THIS ISSUE***

    1. Open the XBOX ACCESSORIES APP (available in the Windows app store if you don't have it)
    2. Update controller firmware
    3. Reset PC
    4. VOILA! Issue should be resolved.

I made an account here to let you know the fix since you were all very helpful. Please enjoy.

I tried uninstalling the Windows Update mentioned in this thread and my computer then refused to boot, forcing me to use System Restore to get everything working again. So if you decide to go that route, just know that you may risk running into issues with booting back into Windows.

However, I did find a solution which I believe works, and it's on some Halo Maps site forum: http://forum.halomaps.org/index.cfm?...&topicID=49128

It's in the "Update" section of the top post. You'll need to download some drivers from the Microsoft Update catalog, plug in the controller, go to Device Manager, and update the driver using the files you just downloaded. This has worked for me so far. Hope this helps someone else.

EDIT: Never mind, the bug still occurs for me.

I had this issue with it not booting, I booted in safe mode then removed the 2 windows updates & then disabled the windows update service & restarted.

PC booted fine after that & has solved the issue.

Just waiting on windows to fix it in the next patch.

Does anyone know if Microsoft have even acknowledged this issue exists? I fear that this issue may get left unresolved for months as, in my experience, they are not very good at addressing more minor issues like this one (minor because not all PC gamers will use an Xbox One controller). I recall suffering the 512 items bug in All Programs (lots of missing shortcuts) for months after Windows 10 launch even though I saw a lot of people reporting the issue via the Feedback tool.

The problem is that by blocking these cumulative updates I may be missing out on specific bug fixes for other things. It's not really ideal to have to block them really.
