Random power down or auto wake-up and start restart loop issue after window update

    Hi,

After I updated widows 10 using windows update function, my system because very unstable -

restart loop a few times and no post after that. The pc power button is no longer working until I cut the power and drain the power completely.

The symptom starts with random power up automatically, then it shut down by it self a few minute later.

Then, it starts restart loop ending power cut by motherboard circuit break.

Tried troubleshooting for last four months

1 I replaced the PSU, CPU, motherboard, SSD, and ram. Still the same problem occurs.

2 Updated windows 10 build 1909 to 20H2, but has the same issue.

3 Fresh install the build 1909, as soon as I run and install the windows update, the reboot loop starts and it kills the motherboard power circuit.

4 Finally I tried three different PCs: two are using MSI motherboards, and one is using old Dell PC.

I have no issue with Dell PC, but MSI board PCs have the same issue.

    Here are three PC specs.

PC 1: Reboot loop issue since update on July 2020

    Motherboard: MSI Z97M

    CPU: i5-4690

    Ram: Corsair DDR3 16gb

PC2: Reboot loop issue since update on July 2020

    Motherboard: MSI Z390M

    CPU: i5-9600

    Ram: G.Skill DDR 4 16gb

    PC3: No Reboot issue

    Dell Optiplex 9020

    CPU: i7-4790

    Ram: DDR 3 16 gb

I follow every step what below site suggested without any luck.

Note that fresh installation of build 1909 without windows update does not have this issue I am observing last two days and do not having any random power down issue yet

    Please advise.

    Best,

    D

    :)

    Random restarts

when you start the computer up press F8 repeatedly until you get a list of how to start windows, choose do not automatically restart on system failure. if your getting bsod's list what your getting here so we can further help you. IF the system is not getting bsod's and still restarting as you say then i would look into getting a line conditioner for your computer as you might be having power issues.

  3. random restarts

    Hi,

If a Windows computer random restarts, the device usually have some damaged system components. For us to provide an accurate solution, we would need you to answer the following questions:

    • Which build, version and edition of Windows is installed on your computer?
    • What changes have you made to the device before this issue occurred?
    • What troubleshooting steps was already performed to your laptop?

In the meantime, it will be best to make sure that the latest update of Windows is installed on your device. If the same issue happens after installing Windows Update, we suggest running the power troubleshooter. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Open the Control Panel.
    • Using the search bar at the upper-right corner, type troubleshooting.
    • From the search results, click on Troubleshooting and then select System and Security.
    • Click on Power and then follow the prompts to successfully run the tool.

We are looking forward to your response.
