    RAT/Malware - Getting back Admin


    I’m trying to fix a family members computer. I suspect was exposed to a RAT, where they pose as windows employees and get access to the computer, remove you from admin and install adware etc. Can anyone identify if any of these are troublemakers on this computer?

    CCleaner won’t let me remove “RebateAll” or “DNS Unlocker version 1.4” It says it can’t fine the specified files.

    Theres a bunch of “desktop.ini” files on the desktop that are inaccessible

    I have run tronscript which brought the disk usage from 100% to normal levels.

    Access denied to “C:\documents and settings, C:\ProgramData\Application Data, C:\System Volume Information” and a bunch of other files

    I am afraid it has infected their modem as well.

    What steps should I take to reclaim this computer?

    I'm not sure if these Revenge-RAT v0.3 file detections have anything to do with what you are having:

    When you're clicking on the red "Not trusted" you'll see more details and also links to respective VirusTotal scans.

    Perhaps it's best to ask for free expert help in a specialized forum, see i.e. here:


    Might be best to do a clean reinstall, please do read through

    admin password?

    You can reset the Admin Password using Windows XP repair; See Here for step by step.

    RAT/Malware - Getting back Admin

    Did our Epson printer get hacked?

    Another question, is this on a home network or a work network? The steps @eidairaman1 listed are always a good first step. If this is on a work network you manage, I'd be much more concerned than the home one. It is possible someone is screwing with you, but malware could also be the culprit.
