Windows 10: Re-Activating Windows 10

I bought Windows 10 Home about 5 years ago and for some reason recently it wants me to reactivate my windows. So I get the message at the bottom right of my screen telling me to reactivate and I am unable to change my background. This really isn't a huge issue but am curious as to why it isn't already activated? When trying to activate it again my old product key seems to not work and they want me to purchase another copy of Windows 10. If anyone is able to help me out it would be appreciated!

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
