    I have an extensive set of notes constructed from text plus images copied and pasted with the Snip tool on Windows 10 Pro. Suddenly, all of those images are blank except for the error message above. Essentially, that's many, many hours of work down the tubes.


    My understanding is that you can right-click in the image and use Change Picture>[From a File] or [Online] or [From Icons] to correct the problem, except that (1) images pasted from the Snip tool do not fall into any of those categories and (2) going through my notes to do that image by image would take hours.


    Is there any way to fix this?

    There is a lot of information about this error, but unfortunately none of it shows resolve.
    This error message can occur due to a corrupted file caused by physical damage to the hard drive sectors, system crash or a virus.

    To assist you better with your concern regarding copying/pasting PDF files to a Word document, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Are you trying to convert a PDF file into a Word document?
    • When did this issue started?
    • Where there any changes made on your computer prior to this happening?
    • Does this only happen on PDF files?

    In the meantime, you may also try the following steps below and see if it helps.

    • Open the PDF file in Adobe Reader.
    • Click the image you want to copy to select it.
    • Right click on the image and click Copy Image (Ctrl+C).
    • Switch to Word, click the location where you want to paste the image, and then click Paste(Ctrl+V) on the Home tab in the Clipboard group.

    My friend was using Microsoft office/word 2016 to finish an assessment.


    He was modifying and filling the word document that was on a portable hard drive attached to his laptop,,,,,means he didn't copy the document from the external hard drive to his laptop.


    he ended up with embedded image to be replaced with :

    Google didn't reveal many solutions and I did try "Open and Repair" solution but no joy
