Windows 10: re-installing Windows 10, error 0xC1900101 - 0x20017: bad drivers?

Ha ha...Actually, I'm not sure how old it is, but it is a SATA drive. I built the computer about 8 years ago but I'm not even sure it's the original drive. I've had to replace them now and then. It's an old clunker of a computer, but it's still fast enough to do what I need at work. I was surprised that it ran much quicker with Windows 10 installed than the original XP.

SATA and IDE drives have different interfaces. The 2004 PC I just upgraded has both SATA (3GB/s max) & IDE disk interfaces (and a floppy drive!). See Windows 10 on 2004 PC?

I added a cheap Plextor SSD on the SATA interface which made a huge difference.

 

Yes, I know. Mine is set up with a SATA interface, which is why I chose the AHCI mode. It works fine with Windows 8. I have a SSD on my home computer for the start up drive and I love it. about 15 - 30 sec boot up time. Used to be faster, but now it's a bit slower with after a lot of stuff is installed. I might try to switch the mode now that Windows is running and see if Windows will recognize it or not. I'm thinking it might not, so I'm not sure if I should, but I can always switch it back in the BIOS.
