    Reactivating after hardware change issues

Trying to reactivate Windows 10 after a hardware upgrade. I'm logged in to my Microsoft account. I went though:

Activate > I changed hardware recently > check the box for "this is the device I'm using right now".

I get an error of "we can't reactivate Windows on this device. Try again later".

Called Microsoft, but they wouldn't help me without a product key, which I haven't needed when reactivating after previous builds. My key was originally from Vista over a decade ago and went though every version since, so there's no way I still have that. Do I need to buy a new version of Windows even though my linked version is clearly on my active Microsoft account?

    :)

Windows 10 won't reactivate after a hardware change

I changed a lot of the hardware on my device recently, however I followed the steps on the Microsoft support page to get my computer ready for the hardware change so that I could reactivate Windows 10 after I changed the hardware. However, now it won't reactivate,
and has the error code 0xC004F025, and when I try to troubleshoot it says "We can't reactivate Windows on this device. Try again later."

My Windows 10 was a free upgrade from Windows 7.
