  1. Really slow startup and no mention of Win10 in boot

Since upgrading to Win 10 recently it takes PC about 20mins plus to start (window and revolving wheel ) then log in /admin password enter --and it then runs OK
I can live with it at worst ( make a cup o coffee and toast ) and then put it to sleep at night !*Wink

Have tried reducing progs and services that run at startup etc -but no effect on boot time

Recently examined config sys and used safe mode --but when I tried to revert to norm found that it had selective start up checked When I tried normal -it switched back to selective ?!

Under boot tab I find that whilst I start in Win 10 screen and all functions are Win 10 related --it only mentions Win7 Pro in boot
Could this be connected with slow startup time in that its saying the previous OS and having to search for Win 10 because it didnt install correctly perhaps ?

I dont want to do clean install if at all possible and have to back up / organise all files In addition I have some dongol key progs loaded that would be an absolute pain to sort out again ----but- if absolutely no other way ..............?

What would you suggest to sort
Or do I just live with the slow boot as I said earlier

Other than that -PC runs fine Its just that I`d be happier knowing if it could be sorted and whats causing it Thanks fellas (Would appreciate any suggestions and advice but please be aware that my knowledge of computers is low to average and I mainly USE `em rather than know what makes em tick!!*Wink

    :)

  2. Windows tells me I don't have enough space to download updates.

    Bill, create a Win10 USB/DVD as mentioned
    here
, boot from it into Advanced Startup as detailed
    here
and run Startup Repair as mentioned
    here
    .

  3. Low Read and Write disk speeds (Windows 10)

I've already tried this and didn't really make a difference. It only sped up boot speed but the disk was still 100% slowing down startup. Thanks for giving out advice though.

Really slow startup and no mention of Win10 in boot

Initial troubleshooting is to run sfc /scannow from an admin command prompt and run chkdsk c: /spotfix or chkdsk c: /r for a full bad sector scan which takes ages. Also, ensure you have no disks connected which have an active partition other than your boot drive since this can confuse the boot process - you can use MiniTool Partition Wizard to check this. You could also use Autoruns to check and disable startup programs, services and tasks if you feel confident to use it - see Autoruns for Windows

Thats your problem...you upgraded , do a clean install & you will have no worries. I dont have a thousand posts here but I have installed w10 a few times and always clean install no problems.

Your partitions are OK from your post - only 1 active partition.

There may be something wrong with your configuration. Try the following:

Run start up repair - see Startup Repair - Run in Windows 10

You could try a repair install where you install Windows over itself - Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Else, you might have to do a clean install.

Ensure you have backed up your data before attempting the above.

*Smile . takes about 30 minutes clean, far less time to clean install than doing all lengthy troubleshooting

Yes, the clean install will take 30mins but quite a few hours are needed to reinstall all programs & devices, configure and test them.

    Hi,
Have you any third party AV program installed? If you have, just uninstall it and see whether it helps, too lazy to read all the posts on a Sunday morning, if I have missed you*posting the details of your AV.

  15. Hi friends
Frankly loathe to do clean install as I have two "expensive" design programmes on there that are dongol / crypkey protected and whilst I could "get them back"it would be lengthy process --and would hate the inconvenience and pain !!!!
At the moment apart from lengthy start up boot from cold --all isworking fine - but to be frank cant think of any particularbenefits gained from changing to Win 10 pro from Win 7 Pro and frankly wishId left well alone and not fallen for the "hype" Got Brtummies suggestion /switched off Bitdefender and tried again -Didnt help sadly
Have then (ith AV still "off" tried a system restore via Win 10
This was unsuccessful as it saidit couldnt access a file -possibly due to A V prog so switch it off (it was already switched off) Triying again at moment. With no3rd party AV it iswanting to update Windows protection
Thought Id try system restore then and revert to a restore point "before" the Critical Windows update yesterday that resurrected the 22min boot time that I had just overcome by using the system repair via a Win10 iso

Frankly its all so ****frustrating as all was fine in win7 but I fell for the free upgrade offer and the fact theyd introduced anew all singing and dancing.........

So much info on PC and to be honest if I cant solve soon - I`ll suffer the slow boot and then carry on with life as it should be afterwards
Files / folders etc are backed up and COULD be recovered but software no - and if I took the plunge -it worries me that there may bev a problem with those on compatibility etc (though Im told there SHOULDNT be !HaHa There wasnt to be a prob with the upgrade either \
All advice points to the clean install but at the moment if I could get back to the 90second boot I had after repair install yesterday I`D BE OPENING A BOTTLE OR TWO!!

Advice / suggestions / and or helpgreatly appreciated but wanted to make all aware of the full circumstances

sorry noticed bad typing - but response done on tablet (small keys /big fingers!!!*Cool
