Well i fix the sound in windows 10 in my laptop Acer Aspire 3000 and i like to share what i did.

    1) First of all you have to stop Windows 10 automatically installing drivers, use this topic of windows 7 that works in windows 10 too
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2500967
    2) Go to devices manager and uninstall Realtek AC97 and select delete the driver too
    3) Download this utility for hide updates in windows 10 and hide the update of Realtek audio:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
    4) Install one driver that works, in my case i used one old driver from Realtek,i uploaded it to 4shared:
    Audio_Realtek_5.10.00.5790_XPx86 - Download - 4shared - Pedro Vázquez
I installed it right click in setup and use compability with windows xp sp3
Then if audio service dont start go to services and look for audio service, open it and in the section start sesion change from
system account to this account paste this NT AUTHORITY\LocalService in password put the pass of admin if you dont have one then
leave this in blank and accept then try to start service

This is all!,i hope this works for you like me!

Did not work for me only disabling driver updates from Windows update as quoted here worked.
I did get sound with the cruddy Realtek drivers WU keeps pushing but the sound quality is horrible. Echo like sound and full blast loud even at low volume levels. I find the High Definition Audio drivers the best sound quality and is light on resources.

  4. Realtek HD audio non sound after win 10 upgrade

I've got an Asus N55SL that was running Windows 7 before I upgraded to 10. To start with there was no sound at all from the B&O Icepower speakers. I followed the advice and now have the V6.0.1.6631 driver installed and at least I'm getting some sound but it sucks big time, no depth to it at all and tinny. Has anybody managed to get the sound working properly at all?

  7. Solved Realtek HD audio non-sound problem after Win 10 upgrade and would like to pass info along.

    1) Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced System, Hardware tab, Device Installation Settings, click on "Never install driver software from Windows update". I also unchecked the last box.

    2) Then go to Realtek URL High Definition Audio Codecs, click on I Accept and Next, click on High Definition Audio Codecs (Software), then on next screen click on Global, the 64bit version. Run the Install Shield, and click on Restart. HERE'S THE BIG POINT, on Restart, immediately cancel the installation! If you install it, it will NOT WORK. If you didn't tell Windows update to not install driver soft updates, it will NOT WORK! When you Restart again, again Cancel the installation!

The driver info on Device Manager was always the same at 10.0.10240.16384 7/9/15 no matter what I alternative I used, however running dxdiag under Search showed very different driver numbers each time. It now says the same as shown, except 7/10/15.
I tried Microsoft who went through all the system checks, remote access, etc. They hoped for a driver update at some point.

Better yet just set Never install driver updates from Windows Update, uninstall the Realtek drivers then reboot and let Windows install the High Definition Audio drivers. They sound much better, they are stable and light on resources. Don't bother with the Realtek junk drivers.

  9. Thank you for your suggestion!

I tried exactly the process you suggested and but unfortunately it did not work for me. However, as you suggested, the driver I have installed is the Microsoft driver! The Realtek driver did NOT work and that is why I Cancelled the Install part of the Realtek process.

What I think is happening, at least in my case, is that Realtek's Uninstall process works whereas when I clicked on Device Manager, Update driver, or Uninstall, the sound still would not work. At least in my case, what finally worked, is to let Realtek, rather than Device Manager, do the Uninstall and then let Windows install the driver.

Device Manager always has listed the same driver number no matter what I tried. However, by going to Search Dxdiag, I could see Realtek or Microsoft driver numbers. Interestingly, the driver number shown when the sound finally worked was what I stated in my write up but dated one day later at 7/10/15

  10. Hello, I'm hoping you can help me. After upgrading to windows 10 I lost my sound as many have described here. I have headphones but nothing else. I saw this thread and followed the instructions here. After uninstalling the realtek driver and rebooting I cancelled the installation of the realtek driver as you stated. I checked my sound and nothing. I rebooted again and still nothing. How do I install the windows HD Drivers that you are saying are much better? It doesn't make sense to me that after selecting "never install driver software from windows update" that any drivers would be installed after rebooting. Is there a step I'm missing?

  11. I am sorry the solution that worked for me does not work for you. When you uninstall the Microsoft driver using the Realtek uninstall process as described, that does not delete the Microsoft driver from the computer. So when you reboot, the resident Microsoft driver is accessed.

I have no knowledge whether the Microsoft drivers are any better than Realtek. Another respondent addressed this.

You may want to try downloading the new August 10 WIndows Update for Realtek drivers. I tried it and it did NOT WORK for me. I had to got through the Realtek uninstall process again.

  12. To further clarify:
After cancelling the Realtek install and rebooting, I had the Windows startup sound immediately. The driver is a Microsoft driver with the same driver number as shown. If I enabled Windows update and allowed the driver to download, it DOES NOT WORK. I tried this process both with the original Windows 10 release and the August 20 Realtek driver update.

The only thing I can surmise is that the WIndows update is both uninstalling and reinstalling their driver and for me and that DOES NOT WORK. The only way I can get sound is to use Realtek to Uninstall, then let Windows reinstall the Microsoft driver still resident on the computer, NOT from Windows update.

I think the problem, at least in my case, is that both the original WIndows 10 release and the August 10 WIndows Realtek driver update do not have the proper uninstall process, so I have to rely on Realtek for the uninstall.

On August 13, I received the following helpful message from a Microsoft Senior Software Engineer so maybe a fix is at hand:
"I think you're on the right track with this. We're working on a fix with Realtek. Thanks for the data!"

Another set of crappy Realtek drivers were pushed to me using Windows update. I hid them using the tool but I was still forced to install them first. They are a bit better but still suck. The audio is no longer super loud but it still makes my Bose speakers sound like a cheap $9 no name brand speakers. No bass and tiny sound. I uninstalled them and they have not shown up in Windows update until the next crappy Realtek driver update.

What really gets me is that it leaves all my other drivers alone. I updated them manually and they stay on that version but it will not leave me alone on the audio driver. Come on 90% of my computer use is listening to music.
