Windows 10: Realtek Internal Microphone and Stereo Mix not receiving audio. Both already enabled,...

I've search all over for a solution to this, but haven't found one.
Two days ago, I updated my Realtek High Definition Audio drivers on my Dell G7 15 from the Realtek site to fix a problem with my audio enhancements. Since then, my stereo mix and internal microphone haven't been able to pick up anything. I've ran the microphone troubleshooter, and I already checked to see if one of them was disabled. In their properties, the levels tab is completely empty, so I can't change anything in there.



I'm not sure what I can do to fix this, and I really don't want to reset my entire computer.

Wow, ok. I think I've fixed it by accident while fiddling around.

It appears to be the Realtek audio being the issue here. I don't use my onboard sound card as my headset is a USB headset only and my speakers are plugged into an ASUS sound card.

Step by step fix:

• I went into recording devices
• I enabled STEREO MIX (Realtek High Definition Audio)
• Then I set that Stereo Mix as the DEFAULT DEVICE (At this point it took over both input and output devices without my permission )
• Then set my Sennheiser headset as default recording and playback devices in their respective windows even though they both still said they were the default devices when they weren't

Headset microphone is currently functioning while in game now. I'll update the thread if it goes again. Should I completely disable Realtek audio??? Or will windows just force it to work again?

Regarding the incident, to solve the problem, I suggest you uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers.

Step 1: To enable Stereo Mix

  Right-click on the audio icon in the system tray and select

  Right-click on Stereo Mixer and click on Enable.
  

Step 2: To upgrade the Stereo Mixer

Go to Device Manager. Under Audio Inputs and Sounds, locate Stereo Mixer.

* Right click and go to properties and chose to update drivers.

If the issue still persists, then update your sound card driver by the following steps.

1) Go to Device Manager.

2) Click Sound, video, and game controllers to expand.

3) Under Sound, video, and game controllers, double-click the entry for your sound card, and then click the
Driver tab.
