  1. reboot and select proper boot device

Hey, so my friend owns some religious center with a bunch of PCs in a room. They called me to fix them and install Windows 10, as they had a 32-bit OEM Windows 7 Home Basic full of your typical non tech-savvy pups in every corner. We didn’t have a flash drive or any other bootable media so we decided to use the partition method to install Windows. I got the ISO, extracted it to the new partition, added a WinPE entry in EasyBCD pointing to boot.wim and set it as active. The clean install went smoothly — they’re pretty underpowered PCs as they are from around 2012 but Windows 10 ran perfectly and better than 7 (which is rare for me, probably because of all the pups and potential spyware that was on there). Installed manufacturer drivers, updated and customized them a bit, and then I tried to format that installer partition and get rid of it. On the first PC, I marked it as inactive, removed the EasyBCD entry and tried formatting it, when suddenly, it says the format is not allowed on the current boot, system, pagefile, crash dump or hibernation volume. I restarted it and it just said: “reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media”. I tried tweaking the bios but there were 2 entries: sata ss and something else. (I forgot what it was, reasoning later) I swapped them around to no result. Now: I can’t try anything rn. Reasoning is: (I’m 14 and they’re anywhere from 12-15) there was 5 of us and the guard kicked us out and literally started beating us. Yeah, that’s the reasoning. Also, tomorrow, when his shift isn’t there, we’ll go back and this time with a USB, so what you saying?

  2. Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device...after reboot?

Hello all. Getting a little frustrated here. A couple of weeks ago we had a user come in on a Monday morning to find that her pc was displaying the classic message "Reboot and select proper boot device...". Tried popping in a windows disk and fixing the MBR, no luck. Ended up reinstalling windows and her few programs back on it. All was good after this. For about a day. She came in the next day to find the same message. So at that point we decided that more than likely the drive was bad even though oddly enough it tested out fine. It was a Corsair 60gb SSD.

Last week we swapped that Corsair with a 64gb Crucial SSD and installed Windows. We then created a backup image of that drive. All was good until Thursday when her power strip that the PC was plugged into got tripped. Start up the computer for find "Reboot and select proper boot device..." message. So, apply the backed up image to the SSD since repairing the MBR didn't work.

Now this morning she comes in and the PC is running fine. Attempts to open Microsoft Word and she gets a pop-up stating there isn't enough disk space. So, she then restarts and upon booting back up gets "Reboot and select proper boot device..."

Any ideas what is causing this? Is it something with the mobo or do I just have horrible luck and replaced the bad SSD with another bad SSD?

    It simply won't go.

On the other hand, if I take this path... brings me to W10 from where I'm posting *Smile
