  1. "Reboot and Select proper Boot device"

"...or Insert Boot Media inspected Boot device and press a key"

This is what I see when I try to boot up my PC.

Everything has been working great. This morning shortly after boot up I was searching the web and had started a download for a game off the EpicGamesStore when everything froze. This usually never happens but I let it sit for ~5 minutes and everything was still frozen.

I ctrl+alt+delete in an attempt to sign-out and restart and I ended up getting a message on a screen saying something went wrong and my computer was going to be restarted. Eventually my screen went blank and nothing was happening. I went away and came back later and the screen was still blank so I turned the computer off with the power button and turned it back on which is where I am now getting the "Reboot and Select proper Boot device" message.

I can do nothing from this screen so my only option is to go into the BIOS menu. I really have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it but I have noticed one thing which I found odd.

When viewing my boot order the first device is "UEFI USB Key"

When I had previously accessed BIOS 3-4 months ago for a different issue I have a photo that shows my first device as "UEFI Hard Disk: Windows Boot Manager" and I know my computer was at least booting up back when this was #1 (Not sure if it ended up getting moved to a different order after I had taken my PC in to be fixed). Now all I see is "UEFI Hard Disk" as an option, nothing including "Windows Boot Manager". Regardless I tried moving this to my first device and it did not resolve my issue.

Another change I noticed is that I had a device "Hard Disk: ADATA SU720" which I believe is my SSD and the only drive I have on my computer. Now instead I only have "Hard Disk" as an option.

I have tried googling how to fix this it says to move my HDD to first and try reloading but I only have an SSD and it doesn't seem to be recognized anymore. I still tried making "Hard Disk" (where my SSD was once recognized) as my first device and that didn't work either.

I haven't physically moved my PC in months and it has been working flawlessly before this happened out of nowhere this morning. I don't imagine that anything has come loose.

Does anybody have any idea what I can try to fix this?

My best guess as to why this is happening is that when I was given the message that something went wrong and my PC was restarting... after I had left and come back to a blank screen and assumed it was finished or stuck and had physically turned my PC off I had interrupted some process that was happening in regards my PC freezing earlier and whatever my PC was doing to resolve the issue and reboot itself.

Any advice before I give up and pay someone to look at it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device...after reboot?

Hello all. Getting a little frustrated here. A couple of weeks ago we had a user come in on a Monday morning to find that her pc was displaying the classic message "Reboot and select proper boot device...". Tried popping in a windows disk and fixing the MBR, no luck. Ended up reinstalling windows and her few programs back on it. All was good after this. For about a day. She came in the next day to find the same message. So at that point we decided that more than likely the drive was bad even though oddly enough it tested out fine. It was a Corsair 60gb SSD.

Last week we swapped that Corsair with a 64gb Crucial SSD and installed Windows. We then created a backup image of that drive. All was good until Thursday when her power strip that the PC was plugged into got tripped. Start up the computer for find "Reboot and select proper boot device..." message. So, apply the backed up image to the SSD since repairing the MBR didn't work.

Now this morning she comes in and the PC is running fine. Attempts to open Microsoft Word and she gets a pop-up stating there isn't enough disk space. So, she then restarts and upon booting back up gets "Reboot and select proper boot device..."

Any ideas what is causing this? Is it something with the mobo or do I just have horrible luck and replaced the bad SSD with another bad SSD?

    It simply won't go.

On the other hand, if I take this path... brings me to W10 from where I'm posting *Smile
