Windows 10: Rebooting from Windows directly to UEFI via a manufacturers utility

My motherboard manufacturer, ASUS, provides a utility (called 'ASUS Boot Setting') which can be used to reboot a computer directly from Windows to the UEFI. My question is, would it be possible to somehow link to this from the Windows shutdown menu options such as 'shutdown', 'sleep', 'hibernate' etc?

How to make the F1, F2 and F3 keys no longer control volume.

These keys are set by a manufacturer's utility [which should be listed in the Start menu] or in the BIOS / UEFI [reboot to enter it then look for a setting such as
Multimedia keys].

I suspect that, in your case, they can be set by a manufacturer's utility [purely because the recent update managed to reset them].

That method requires a reboot, which means that you're not accessing the UEFI settings from within Windows. It's much simpler to just reboot and use the key prescribed by the computer OEM or motherboard manufacturer. Instructions for HP users are

here.

 

Save a batch file (.bat) with the following command in it:

shutdown /r /f /t 00

Make a shortcut to the batch (.bat) file on your desktop and pin it to the taskbar if you want.

/r means restart
/f means restart into UEFI firmware
/t 00 means immediately

When you create the shortcut to the .bat file, select the properties for the shortcut and the advanced button and set it to run as administrator.

 

Thanks very much. Does that also mean that it can't actually be included in the normal list of shutdown options though?

 

It might be possible with a registry entry, but that would be beyond my knowledge. You can probably assign the shortcut a hotkey sequence like ctrl-alt-s. The annoying part is that it has to be run as administrator, so you do have to answer the UAC prompt.

 

You can already do that from the Recovery options....
