  1. Rebuild index under Windows 10 pro without user logon

Recently, after I upgraded from Windows 10 build 1709 to build 1803 (using Windows upgrade Assistant), I found there seems to be some kind of index corruption (from around 200,000 items to 13,000 items). The majority of the items comes from the Outlook mails (OST files).

The solution is to rebuild the index. But due to such large number of items, it normally take 3 ~ 4 hours to complete the rebuild.

My question is: To minimize the user impact, I would upgrade the Windows after work and then perform the index rebuild afterwards. But to my experience, it requires user to logon first (the system will take extra time to re-configure the user's profile the first time the user logon after the O/S upgrade) before the rebuild can be done. I tried logon as local administrator and rebuild the index immediately after the upgrade, but the rebuild not include the OST files stored under the user profile.

I do NOT want to ask user to stay after work until the O/S upgrade finish, which normally takes 30 ~ 35 minutes (depending on the speed of the desktop).

    :)

Rebuild Search Index in Windows 10

Hi Shawn, I've not found how to reset Indexing Options to default in the tutorials- may have missed it. This seems comparatively obscure, and is a question asked a number of times when I looked generally on the internet.

    I found this:
    http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/re...-fix-problems/

    - in particular
I've not tried it personally as I don't wish to do that- suppose I could on a dummy user account!

Suggest it could be worth adding to the tutorial if valid.
