    Recommend a cheap AMD machine


    I am looking to spec up an AMD machine for dad as his machine is old and slow.

    All he does with his computer is write letters and play solitaire so it doesn't need to be anything fancy.

    I am unfamiliar with AMD hardware, specs and prices so I would appreciate suggestions.

    The budget is around £220.

    Windows 10 performance? compare to win 8 and win 7

    I had serious performance problems after going from 7 to 8, when it first came out. Machine was ~1 year old and wasn;t a cheap purchase. It makes me reticent to upgrade from 8 to 10.

    Now I am on a different work machine and can;t afford to have serious performance trouble. Any recommendations or advice?

    My built in laptop DVD-CD Drive doesnt work in windows 10 but works in ubuntu and windows 7

    Is your machine using a AMD or Intel Chipset ?

    Is this a Toshiba machine ?

    You can build an inexpensive one base on an A4-4000. Nice basic APU. IMO..

    And later swarfega you can upgrade to SSD, for even faster performance.

    BTW Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary Edition can also be used to cheap machines.

    Thanks for the help guys. I have an ageing OCZ Vertex 2 SSD which dad can use. I believe the Vertex 2 had a bit of a reputation for failing though.

    Adding a 120GB SSD to either of the above systems would probably add about sixty quid. Have a play around with the configurations.
