  1. recover lost files on my local computer after I abort syncing onedrive?!

Problems: All my files saved in my local laptop disappears.

This happened when I first installed a new Onedrive. It immediately suggested to me to sync the three folders: desktop, documents and pictures. I clicked yes.

But, I realized it is too slow and thought I actually don't need to back them up to cloud. So in the progress, I paused and abort the operation, so large number of files have not been uploaded. BUT today, I realized all my files saved on the laptop is gone, only those uploaded appear on my laptop

I have lots of research data lost in this process.

    This is really killing me.

Can somebody help? or is it not possible to find the files...

    :)

OneDrive Placeholders are coming back, now called On-Demand Sync

recover lost files on my local computer after I abort syncing onedrive?! [IMG]

"At Ignite 2016, Microsoft has just announced that it is bringing Placeholders back to OneDrive on Windows 10. Now, they are not called Placeholders anymore — Microsoft is renaming the feature to “On-Demand Sync” which makes a lot more sense than “Placeholders”.

The company demoed this feature at Microsoft Ignite today, and it works just like it used to previously. As you can see in the screenshot above, the files stored in OneDrive weighed in around 9GB, but the actual size on disk was only around 3MB which is really neat. Of course, this feature isn’t anything new as it was available back in the Windows 8 days. However, Microsoft removed the feature with Windows 10, and after lots of waiting, they are finally coming back.

In case you are not familiar with OneDrive Placeholders, it’s a pretty neat feature which lets you see all of your OneDrive files on your computer — but they are not actually downloaded on your PC. When you open them, OneDrive will download the files on-demand, saving your local space which is really useful, especially if you have a PC that doesn’t have a lot of storage.

While Microsoft didn’t announce when exactly On-Demand Sync will be available to OneDrive users, we suspect it will be available with Windows 10 Redstone 2 — which is expected to arrive early next year.

  3. OneDrive lost file

Hi, Mr0odlesnNoodle I'm Yanecsy and I'm an independent advisor.

    I'm here to help you.

You may not have signed in with the correct Microsoft account, and the files may have been saved to another OneDrive, such as your personal OneDrive account. If so, sign out of your OneDrive and sign in with the other account.

If you still can't find the files, a file may not yet be synced. Files that are saved with Office 2016 are uploaded to OneDrive first and then synced to your local computer. If you are having trouble syncing your Office files, the Office upload caching system
might be interfering with OneDrive syncing. Try disabling the related setting in OneDrive settings.

Files that are not in the One Drive Recycle Bin cannot normally be recovered

    Regards.
