Windows 10: Recover my files

Good Evening,
I wanted to format my computer without knowing the process well enough, so I made a mistake which I want to fix but I don't know how. When I started the process it was asking me to create a recovery environment. At that time I had my external drive plugged in and while I had over several files that I needed I picked it up to start knowing it had to be empty. When the format was done and I went to find my files I saw that another site had been created which had the windows installation. My files that were in the rest of the space didn't have access to the disk because it wouldn't let me if I didn't have to format the external hard drive. I did it in the end hoping that somehow I would find them but I couldn't. Could you help me with this or is it not possible?

Recover files from Flash drive

Does not work on a windows pc which is what the OP probably intended

windows by default does not have HFS and HFS+ based hard drives.
Able to perform retrieval on both HFS and HFS+ based hard drives. and so will not work with windows
