Man did I screw something up.

I was doing a Windows 10/Ubuntu Budgie dual boot experiment. I had forgotten that in this scenario Budgie starts creating little Windows headaches not worth having and so I decided my 'fun and games' were over and I'd erase the Linux partition. Y'all helped me do this the last time and so I thought everything was kosher -- but upon restart -- I get stuck looking at this stupid screen:

(Actually you get the first part, hit TAB and get all those possible commands.)

I should explain now I'm not experienced in recovery mode-ish situations. I was a Mac user before Windows 10 and so I'm not so familiar with what key combos I can hit to get into repair or recovery mode. I don't even know what mode I should be trying to get into. All I know is I'm sick of looking at this Grub screen.

The good news is that this is laptop I don't keep anything critical on. Which is to say I could simply reinstall Windows and be done with it. Before I do that, however, I want to know if there's a simpler fix. A way to bypass this screen for good.

So let me back up. When I erasing the partition I was using an app called Minitool Partition Wizard. I was carefully following this guide and was at this exact point --

How to Completely Remove Linux from Dual Boot Windows 10 - YouTube

I clicked Disc 1 just as shown. I believe I clicked Rebuild MBR. But unlike Britic's advice I got a Window saying "You're using the C Drive and so in order to do this you'll need to reboot." I clicked yes and got stuck where I am.

A part of me is nervous I somehow hosed the C drive, but this is way out of my comfort area of expertise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated because my poor little Zenbook Flip is kinda useless at the moment.

    *Sad

    :)

  3. Windows 10 won't boot, repair, recover or reinstall

Thank you, Gerard! I appreciate your help.

I tried using Win 10 boot media to reinstall from scratch. Install chugs away for a while then shows me a list of partitions on my hard drive. No matter which I select, Windows can't be installed because they're GPT partitions.

I've also tried running chkdsk /r /x as suggested in another post. That seemed to run without any problems, but when I restarted I eventually got a blue screen with error 0xC0000021a.

At this point it's looking like I need to completely reformat the disk and reinstall Windows from the boot media. Is that the next step? I've recovered my data - which is all still accessible.

    Dual Booting with Windows 8.1

The procedure below will allow you to boot Windows separately or in dual boot configuration.
Here's what I recommend to do:
    1. Disconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
    2. Install Windows 10 with one drive connected.
    3. After step 2, reconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
    4. Boot up Windows 8.1. Open disk management and take a note of the drive letter of Windows 10 OS.
NOTE: if you boot up Windows 10, then take a note of Windows 8.1 drive letter
    5. Open Admin command prompt and type: bcdboot X:\windows where X: is the drive letter of Windows 10 (Windows 8.1 if you boot from Windows 10 in step 4)
    6. Reboot the PC. You should have a dual boot screen.

NOTE: To break off the dual boot setting, Win+R->msconfig->boot and delete the none default entry on the list.
