Windows 10: Recycle bin for C:/ is corrupt do you want to empty reycle bin

The problem I have is on a domain PC running Windows 10. When the PC starts up it shows the lock screen with ctrl-alt-delete to unlock. On ctrl-alt-delete it goes to a recycle bin error “Recycle bin for drive C:/ is corrupt do you want to empty recycle bin”. At this point the machine is locked up.




I have seen many posts regarding recycle bin corruption, but each solution requires access to the command prompt.





I have not managed to find any way back into the machine to resolve the recycle bin problem, though I must confess I lack experience with Windows 10.

To prevent your files from being deleted from the Recycle Bin, we suggest increasing the maximum file size your Recycle Bin can keep by following the steps below:

• Right click on the Recycle Bin icon.
• Under the Settings for selected location, select Custom size.
• Fill up the box for your allotted maximum file size for your Recycle Bin.

Hi OliveiroAlex, your Recycle Bin may be corrupt

To fix a corrupt Recycle Bin:

Open a Command Prompt window as administrator:

(Click your Start Button, type cmd, right click Command Prompt in the resulting list and choose 'Run as Administrator')

Paste the following command and hit Enter:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

Close the Command Prompt window and restart your system

Then create a new text document on your desktop and delete it to create a new recycle bin . . .
