Windows 10: Reformat and Reinstall Windows 10 Pro - DELL Installation Media

Hi Guys,

We've recently started to dabble with Windows 10 Pro in preparation to deploy to our environement which is currently Windows 7.

I'm struggling at the first step though. Traditionally, whenever we receive new kit we wipe the preinstalled Dell OEM Windows OS and reinstall with the Dell Windows media shipped with the computer. This is usually simple to do, the partition gets wiped and Windows is installed (after following the usual 'language' and 'keyboard' settings).

However, Windows 10 (along with UEFI) isn't as simple, as it allows a refresh and some other options which don't fully wipe the drive down.

Can someone please point me in the right direction as to how to go about a FULL wipe down of the drive, to start from scratch with the Dell Windows 10 disc I have (no drivers, no additional software, I just want it to be vanilla Windows 10 for Dell install).

Windows 10 updates fails

before I start this process, will I have to reinstall everything on my PC. Is this the equivalent of a reformat ?

I installed Windows 10 Pro using the Media Creation Tool.

If you do not have Windows 10 Installation Media Click HERE to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download
Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (select Create Installation Media for another PC), create Installation media on either a Flash Drive (min 4GB) or DVD

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media (on a Dell press F12 key a few times just as the Dell logo appears)

During the installation process choose Windows 10 Pro - the installation will contain Home, Home SL and Pro versions.

Also during the installation, if you previously had Windows 10 Pro installed on that system, skip the steps to enter a product Key

If you previously had Windows 10 Pro installed and activated on that PC during the installation process select 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft

Otherwise you will have to purchase a Windows 10 Pro Licence

Hi both of these may be of interest.
Of course you can delete partitions and format using the options available. (Step 13 in the first above).

If you prefer, you can simply wipe your disk first with your preferred partition manager.
