  1. Refuse driver updates in Windows 10?

I just installed the leaked Windows 10 build 10051. Before this I had 9926 installed. I have a game called DayZ Standalone, it refused to launch on 9926. A friend said that updating to 10051 allowed him to launch the game. So I did a clean install. Everything works great so far. In 9926 there was a Registry hack that allows to return the old Windows Update to Control Panel, and with that I could refuse driver updates, while allowing all other updates to install. However, the Reg hack no longer works in 10051. I need to be able to refuse driver updates, since I use my own drivers that I've downloaded elsewhere. Is there any way to do this, without using other Reg hacks to disable auto-updates? If not, I might have to roll back to 8.1

    Thanks!

    :)

  2. Sound Driver Refuses to Update

    Hello Ryan,

We understand that you are unable to update your sound driver. However that being said, we would like to know the make and model of your laptop? Also, do you receive any error code related to the issue?

As of now, try running the audio troubleshooter and check if the issue persists.

    1. Press Windows key + X key and select Control panel (Set view by as small icons).

    2. In there, select the Troubleshooting> hardware and devices> Sounds> Playing audio> follow the onscreen instruction.

Please get back to us with the necessary details so that we can resolve your issue at the earliest.

    Thank you.

    Have a good day!

  5. I'd appreciate something on this as well. Windows driver updates break my laptop in Win10, all builds.

  6. I rolled back to Windows 8.1, but I'm thinking of installing 10 again. But this time around I'll probably disable the Windows Update Service completely, in addition to a few Registry hacks to complement that. Then I can just wait until a new build allows to selectively pick updates. I'm impressed with 10 overall, even enough to want to use the beta, as it seems stable enough now, but if this shenanigans is in the final 10 release then I wont be upgrading at all. It seems that every new Windows release since Vista is trying to systematically strip users of their freedoms and rights, while imposing ridiculous restrictions, all in the name of a lulled sense of security and running a modern OS that's in keeping with current technology. No longer are we rruly in control of Windows, even admin accounts cant do many things easily anymore. If it werent for gaming, I'd have entirely switched to Linux by now.

Can't you find this? Or is it not blocking the driver updates? Since Windows 7 it's one of first things I do on a fresh install.

Refuse driver updates in Windows 10?

The only release that will allow you selectively pick updates is the final release. Microsoft deliberately forces automatic updates for a couple of reasons. First, it causes pain points. And pain points cause people to complain... if people complain, the problems get fixed. If people could just disable the updates, then they won't complain about the real problem and just assume someone else will.

Second, they want to make sure everyone is running the most recent release so they are only dealing with reports and telemetry from the most current version, and not getting reports from old versions where problems might have already been fixed.

If you can't deal with the automatic update, then you should probably not run the beta. It's part of the social contract.

  9. Go to Run then type gpedit.msc
Then go to Computer configuration< Admin Templates < System < Driver installation
Double click on it then select windows update device driver search prompt and then check the disabled option.

There you go, hope it helps !

  11. For future reference, how can you find this?

OP, you need to let windows update install the "bad" driver first, then install your "good" driver over top of it. Windows update will not try to install over it again after this. If the GUI installer of the driver doesn't let you install over the "bad" driver, then you need to locate the INF folder of the driver (you may need to download the driver in .zip format, and unpack it in order to find this, or you may need to unpack the .exe itself) (don't remove the INF from its location, just take note of where it is) , then go to device manager ----> <select device> --> right click --> "Update Driver Software" --->"Pick from my computer" ---> "Have Disk" , here open the path of the .inf file, it should prompt you to install and you should be good to go.

    Give that a go

  13. Refuse driver updates in Windows 10?

Oh really? Intel blocks their graphics drivers from running on Windows 10, forcing you to use generic drivers. If you manage to force the intel drivers to work, they will merely be replaced by generic drivers on the next update.

Thank you for this! Will this prevent all future automatic driver updates? I got the 10240 build (pro) yesterday on my NUC and was surprised that windows update remains non-customizable, if this is supposed to be the RTM version. I don't mind regular automatic updates, but I definitely would mind forced driver updates. You know the saying, if it ain't broke...
