Windows 10: Registry Cleaning

Discus and support Registry Cleaning in Windows 10 Performance & Maintenance to solve the problem; I agree completely. The performance difference is imperceptible if done regularly, but do it on a system that hasn't been cleaned for years and you... Registry Cleaning

I am right with you on this!!! Been cleaning my registry using sometimes, 2 different cleaners daily, for years, never had a serious problem. To me, its normal house cleaning for your computer. If some folks are scared, then fine, don't do it. I also make image backups, not daily thou. main reason for doing that lately is Windows 10 itself.

Well... that's how I did it in the past. *Smile (I used CloneZilla for this. So, I needed to boot from USB and then make an image of my HD.)

I recently bought Macrium Reflect and this program does a full image every month and an incremental every day. (Around 5am, when I'm sleeping. *Wink)

So, if I wished to do it, I could also use CCleaner everyday, but I don't. Cleaning the cobwebs out of my system, once a month, is enough to keep it running smoothly.

That's what I do. Every month after Update Tuesday. System Restore is also turned off. All automatic stuff like imaging, defrag, and virus scans are also turned off. Hibernation is off as well.

Don't fix them. If you do you won't be able to open Modern apps anymore. They will just close. The only way to fix it is to restore the registry using recuse center but if you did not backup using recuse center then you are screwed. Only a Windows refresh will fix it. I literally could not find squat on how to fix it otherwise.

Incorrect, I used Auslogics and fixed every error it found. Absolutely no problems resulted. I use it on the max settings as well. Of course it made backups but I never had to use them.

    Registry Cleaning

I'm not using any registry cleaner based on the information in this thread.

Some swear by the one in CCleaner. Others wave their hands frantically and warn against it. Others suggest programs I have never heard of. ("I've been using John Doe's Deluxe Registry Cleaner for years!')

    I give up.

That's fine, some folks are worried about using a reg cleaner, some are not. That's Freedom of Choice. I see no problem with folks who don't wish too, or do. Some people like Fords, some like Chevy's. *Smile

I have used glary utils and CCleaner for a hell of along time now without any problems or adverse effects, basically its a matter of choice - either you run a reg cleaner or you dont.

I used registry cleaners frequently with Windows 7 & 8 but I would not touch them with Windows 10. Not since it broke the ability to open apps with no fixes except to restore the registry backup or do a reset.

  12. Just like the Windows 10 upgrade and how most people upgraded just fine, but some had it work just as well as a brick afterwards. So too with Reg cleaners, because no two systems are the same. The SAFE route to take is to NOT EVER use the registry cleaners. But if you like it and use one, that is just dandy. Safe could also mean creating images/backups before cleaning.

Registry cleaners can and have sped up systems. Slower systems obviously gain the most because their slowdowns are much more noticeable. That is why many here say there is no benefit, because today's computers are most often very fast, very capable, so you will not see much difference (usually). Keep in mind there are studies about placebos you should read, it really might apply here for those who use Reg cleaners OFTEN (5 times a week can't be healthy): http://psychology.about.com/od/pinde...ebo-effect.htm

Uusing Reg cleaners OFTEN will have NO benefit whatsoever, except to appease the restless lad shaking his leg at the computer desk. Use as needed/sparingly and you won't look so much like an addict.

The best I've found is Ccleaner, and you gain NO benefit using multiple cleaners... you only increase the risk one of them messes something up (I said increase the risk, so it is no certainty). Choose one you trust, backup your system, and have a go. Or don't. Or use three. These are just chances, and low chances really that anything happens. But things HAVE happened, you can be sure. Or they wouldn't include a registry backup WITH the cleaner itself lol. But sometimes, without risk, there is no reward. Just make sure it is worth it.

I've used Ccleaner, especially helpful in removing JAVA (ick). Sometimes, you just need it. Though I would much prefer an uninstaller (that cleans leftover registry entries from the program), but they usually cost $. Just make sure you know what you're doing when using Reg cleaners (sparingly), and you'll be fine. The built-in Windows tools will do the job just fine in most cases though, if you aren't familiar with Reg cleaning.

  14. Placebo! haha.

Alternatively, one might try not installing/removing programs very often so to prevent the buildup in the first place. I've had minor success with this method, but I fail sometimes and wind up using a cleaner! lol

Anyone try the reg cleaning and system cleaning tools that now come with Bitdefender Total Security? I have CCleaner Pro, wondering how this compares to Bitdefenders option?
